Achieving Your Dreams: Reasons Why You Should Have Goal Planning

April 16, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 162

Nearly every child has an idea of what they want to be when they grow up. From being a firefighter to being a superhero, children have some idea of what they want to do with their life, regardless if it is even possible to achieve. However, somewhere along the way adults seem to forego these ideas and begin making compromises based on their life situation as it is today. Often this leads to regrets later in life as people will often take the easy route instead of pursuing their dreams. To minimize or eliminate these regrets, a person should routinely take the time to do a little goal planning.

Life goal planning is not a steadfast process that works for everyone in the same way. For some, it is a bucket list of things that they would like to achieve in their life. For others, it is a more specific, daily routine that breaks down a bigger goal into manageable bites so that they stepping closer to their goals each day. However, by making these kinds of lists, many people find ways to achieve great things from seemingly insurmountable odds. These lists can consist of one or two items to many hundreds; however they truly serve the purpose of keeping a spotlight on what a person wants the most. Thus, a person who takes just a few moments each day to review, plan, and action these lists, they are taking steps towards eliminating possible future regrets that might happen without a little Goal Planning.

Besides eliminating regrets, goal planning has another benefit, focus. When a person writes down what they want to achieve they are taking a first step in a process. This is an important step because it is quite difficult to get to a destination without knowing where it is and for some, this important step never happens. They always rely on the idea that they will take action on certain date, or after some other event to happen. By taking the first step in this process, a person makes a commitment to themselves to achieve their desired end result. For many people, they view this as keeping their eye on the prize. The idea behind this is that if they are constantly reminded of something that they want they will only focus on tasks that bring them closer to their desired outcome. Also, by having a written reminder of what they want to achieve, a person will be more likely to resist the temptation to deviate from their plan.

Goal planning is an important process that has quite a few benefits. It will allow a person to live to their fullest potential by bring into focus what they want to achieve the most. Further, it will allow them to take steps daily towards their end result which with further fuel their motivation to achieve. Further, by taking just a few moments daily, everybody can truly take actions that can and will eliminate regrets later in life. So, with a plan, some dedicated action, and time, no one's childhood dream is impossible!
