Creative Ideas for Middle School Fundraisers

April 16, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 169

There are many easy and fun ways for middle school students to raise money for special trips, programs, and events. Fundraisers get kids involved in the community while helping to teach important skills like budgeting, marketing, teamwork, and organization.

Seeds, Bulbs and Plants

Spring fundraisers are the perfect time to appeal to people's inner gardeners and green thumbs. Setting up a table full of eye-catching seed packets, boxes of bulbs, and brightly colored flowering plants attracts attention and might even get the kids doing the fundraiser interested in gardening. If your town has a local garden club, see if they'd be willing to help out with the fundraiser by donating seeds or spreading the word to other gardening enthusiasts who might like to get involved.

Gifts and Books

People love finding new and interesting gifts to share with others. Some sales clubs and companies offer fundraiser options that let kids sell fun and useful items to family and friends. A percentage of the profits then goes toward the fundraiser. A similar option involves partnering with bookstores for "book fairs," where customers mention your fundraiser at the checkout and the store credits a portion of the purchase price to your group. This can be an excellent, mutually beneficial opportunity for both your cause and local merchants.

Bake Sales - With a Twist

Bake sales are a traditional way to raise money, but with the growing emphasis on healthy eating, some schools are beginning to limit this kind of fundraising or do away with it entirely. By putting a healthy twist on the traditional bake sale model, you can still take advantage of this time-honored, much loved, and classic method of raising money. Package homemade granola or trail mix in attractive bags with ribbons, or decorative boxes. Learn a few raw dessert recipes and surprise people with delicious new and improved healthy options. If possible, set up your table at a local farmer's market and appeal to people in the community who are looking for fresh, healthful alternative snacks.

These are just a few of the things you can do with your middle school kids to help them raise money for their next event. When kids participate in fundraisers, they not only gather the necessary funds to do something exciting, they also learn how to handle money responsibly and interact with people in a positive way. In addition, there are many companies offering products specifically geared towards appealing to a money-raising audience.
