Cumberland Sausage is a popular breakfast choice for those visiting the Lake District. These sausages are traditionally quite long and usually presented and sold in a coil or spiral. They originate in Cumberland, an ancient county that is now part of Cumbria. Traditionally, the main ingredient is meat from a Cumberland Pig - a pig breed that is specific to the area and is suited to the wet conditions of the Lake District. Unfortunately, the Cumberland Pig became extinct in 1960. Cumberland Sausage has a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status issued by the European Commission, which means it has to be produced within a specific geographical area to carry the name Cumberland Sausage.

Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding is a delicious desert loved by Lakeland tourists and reputedly a personal favourite of the pop star Madonna. Sticky toffee pudding is a steamed moist sponge but what makes it special is the addition of the finely chopped dates and the warm toffee sauce poured over it. It is claimed the pudding originated at the Sharrow Bay Hotel, Ullswater in the 1960's and has been popular ever since.

Borrowdale Tea Bread originates from the Borrowdale Valley just to the south of Keswick in the northern Lake District. Its principal distinguishing ingredient is strong tea in which sultanas are soaked. The other main ingredients are butter, plain flour, brown sugar and an egg (preferably free range). After mixing the ingredients, they are placed in a greased loaf tin and baked for an hour. It is eaten sliced with butter as part of an afternoon tea.

Holker Saltmarsh Lamb is a particular delicacy and is produced on marshy land that is regularly washed over by the sea. Lambs grazing on these saltmarshes pick up a distinctive salty flavour. The lambs from Holker graze on the saltmarshes of the Cartmel peninsula around Morecambe bay in south Lakeland.
