April 12, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 122

You might be thinking of replacing your old and dull looking floor with a hardwood floor. It's okay. But remember, it's also expensive. Wasting all your hard work and money for a wooden floor and damaging it in the long run is careless. Knowing firsthand the right precautions and maintenance to take good care of your floor is essential. In this article, we are going to talk about the right tools to use in cleaning and the right chemicals to help you clean the floor.

Determine what cleaning agent you are going to use when cleaning your hard wood floor because there are some cleaning appliances that may scratch or damage your expensive floor. Saying "It's better safe than sorry" sometimes makes a difference. Furthermore, wrong cleaning practices can cause damage as well. It can leave white spots and strip off your floor's varnish.

You can get an expensive cleaning company to do the job for you, or you can do it yourself. For those of you who would prefer doing it yourself, here are some tips that you can do just fine by following them correctly:

• You need a broom with soft bristles - Used to sweep away debris and dirt that your shoe catches from the street (of course you know this. But I doubt if you use it). Dust and dirt can make your floor muddy and makes grim embeds between the floorboards.

• Uses a vacuum cleaner - See to it that the vacuum has no beater bar- usually upright vacuum cleaners don't have one. It will be very effective in getting rid of embedded dirt in between the boards of the floor.

• A mop made of terry cloth - It can be useful to clean corners and areas like under the tables and chairs. Mix cleaning solution on the mop and use it to clean the floor after you sweep it off. Remember to only use solutions recommended by your retailer.

Solutions to Take Note

Refrain from using solutions that are rich in ammonia or alkaline because it will affect the surface of your floor, making it look dull. Do not use oil based spray or soap based spray because it makes it difficult when you are re-varnish the floor. Oil and varnish are immiscible, that is why it would be hard for you to apply the varnish when oil is on the floor already. Also, an oily floor can be dangerous especially with kids around. Use solutions that do not leave any stain or film like coat on the surface.

For heel and scruff marks use professional grade hardwood cleaning solution and pour it on your rag before cleaning. Lastly, do not use vinegar and water solution to clean the floor. Vinegar is acid based and acids will affect the natural shine of your floor.

Using the right tools like vacuum cleaners, broom stick, and mop will surely make your hardwood floor shiny for as long as you keep it. Furthermore, when it comes to vacuum cleaners, choose make sure you buy the right type of vacuum for your wooden floor.
