Polar Heart Rate Monitors - Gain the Fitness Edge

July 18, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 162

Many Americans know that a regular fitness routine needs to include aerobic exercise an important part of maintaining one's health. Not all understand how to determine their target heart rate and use it to direct the intensity of their workouts for fitness results and optimum calorie burn. The Polar heart rate monitor provides an easy-to-wear and easy-to-use tool for attaining the greatest benefit out of the precious time people dedicate to fitness.

From its base in Finland, Polar, pioneered heart monitoring in the 1970s when they developed the first heart monitor for the Finnish Cross Country Ski Team. Several years later, Polar was the first company to produce a wearable wireless heart monitoring device.

For more than 30 years, Polar has been delivering EKG quality technology for fitness. Over that time, the company's product line has expanded to meet the needs of everyday fitness enthusiasts in addition to world class professional athletes. Offered in a variety of styles and features, all of the Polar monitors capture essential real time fitness feedback so that you can optimize your body's performance.

With the advent of mobile fitness applications, Polar Bluetooth heart rate monitors have become a popular choice. The wireless monitors interface with fitness apps on windows-based, Android or Apple smart phones.

The Bluetooth connection is achieved through the Polar Bluetooth WearLink+, a highly sensitive transmitter attached to a soft, washable strap which feels like clothing. WearLink+ can be worn across the chest or on a bra and can be used as a standalone sensor or in conjunction with the with wrist models. Its sensors read cardiac rate information from your body and transmit that data to the wrist control unit which displays current pulse rate.

Alternately the WearLink+ can be synced to a free or low cost health compatible app such as Endomondo or RunKeeper, that has been downloaded to a Bluetooth enabled mobile device. Generally, these types of fitness apps expand the capabilities for workout management and data storage beyond that of the wrist monitor. Depending on the fitness app, the information can be transferred from the mobile device to a computer or other device for record keeping and analysis.

Monitors can be set to an upper and lower target heart rate limits, determined by the user's age and health. The more advanced models such as those for multi sport athletes function much like a mini computer with technology that can record all aspects of a workout. GPS monitoring facilitates user tracking of speed, distance and the path covered.

Not only is the range of monitors designed for different experience levels but for individual sports activities such as running, walking and cycling. The model you select dictates which fitness statistics and other health information you can track and record for future viewing. Options include monitors that record endurance based training along with weight training and stretching for a complete exercise program.

A Polar heart rate monitor will allow you to keep a long term record of facts to gauge how you are doing now and in future workouts. When going through your weekly exercise program make sure to keep track of how well you do and compare it to past results to track your improvement.

With the information you gather, set new goals and routines to keep from hitting a plateau and to improve your overall health. Putting in the effort and getting the facts will improve your health and performance in your favorite sport.
