A Serious Workout Junkie Or Just Getting Started, You'll Love the Garmin Forerunner 110

I'm reviewing the Garmin Forerunner 110 for you because, if you're serious about your workouts, you know how important your tracking data is. You want to be able to check back to assess your progress over time. Not only is this extremely motivating now, but of course it let's you prepare and plan your future workouts for maximum benefit.

And if you're not that serious or maybe just starting out, you'll also appreciate the many features of this GPS watch.

So what sets the 110 apart from all the others GPS watches? Here are just some of the things it does for you.

Avoid Fuzzy Data

In other words, you want to ensure your workout data is accurate. There's no point collecting and analyzing it if it's not! The Forerunner 110 collects extremely accurate data that's stored right on the unit.. And of course you can also download it to your computer or to the Garmin website (Garmin Connect) where you can take advantage of the free data analysis and share your data with your workout partners.


Part of any good workout is tracking not only your distance, but getting and keeping your heart rate in the right zone. With the Forerunner built-in heart rate monitor you'll be able to track that aspect of your workouts as well.

Do you ever get bored by running the same route all the time? I do and that's why I love the mapping feature. You can easily see your routes on a map online. This way you can select and plot out different routes (and increase your mileage), keeping your runs fresh and interesting!

One issue that some GPS systems are plagued with is losing the satellite signal. This will not be a problem with the 110 because it locks on to satellite. It does this quickly so you can get under way faster and stays locked on even around tall buildings and under trees. Wouldn't it be nice to get rid of (or never have) that frustration?

Light and Compact

Some people have told me they won't wear a watch type GPS because they're too big and bulky. And I agree this used to be the case! However, Garmin has made this into a very compact package that is as light and comfortable as any workout watch. In fact people will think you're just wearing a watch.

The really great thing is that with a single press of a button to start and another to stop and the end of your run, you'll have all your workout data gathered and stored. I find it's best to set up a regular schedule to upload my data to the Garmin Connect site. I do this every Saturday morning so I know I've got it stored for future reference.
