The Coolest Fish For Aquarium Enthusiasts

February 25, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 156

Introduction

If you are looking for some fish to put in your aquarium, make sure you purchase those that have the same type of personalities. The fish community classifies fish personalities as community, semi-aggressive and aggressive.

I started out with semi-aggressive fresh water fish that were recommended because there are easy to care for. Here are my first fish and after five years I still have them.

My Fish

Tiger Barbs - These are cool fish. Do not buy just one because they are more comfortable in schools of six or more. I have seven and they are comfortable knowing that there are more of them around. They usually school together but you can fine them in groups of one every now and then.

They like fish flakes and on occasion I give them freeze-dried and frozen blood-worms.

Kissing Gourami - These fish are pink in color and appear to be kissing each other. They say this is actually an aggressive action, but my observations show that they are puckering their mouths all the time. If you obtain these ensure you get them that are about the same size, because the bigger one will become the aquarium bully.

I have three of these in my tank and feed them fish flakes.

Blue Gourami - Also known as the Three Spot Gourami because it has two dark spots on its side, the eye is counted as the third spot. They are very gentle and a good addition to any ones aquarium. ·

I have three of these and feed them fish flakes with a treat of freeze-dried or frozen blood-worms.

Plecostomus - You may want to be careful in buying these because some species can grow to over twelve inches. But they are good at keeping your tank clean of algae since they are bottom feeders.

I feed them algae tablets, but have observed them rising to the surface to eat the fish flakes I put in.

African Featherfin Catfish - These fish are very pricy, almost five times as much as the ones I have already mentioned. They are shy and need cover to hide in, but they do come out in the evening when it is feeding time.

These are also bottom feeders, but eat most of the fish flakes that fall to the bottom of the tank. They help in keeping your water in the aquarium clear and within the proper chemistry range.

Conclusion

If you were just starting I would recommend the above fish to put in your tank since they are relaxing and easy to care for.
