Black Pond Dye: Spring Is the Ideal Time to Apply

February 13, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 155

With spring nearing, families will soon be enjoying their backyard ponds for swimming, fishing, or just relaxing nearby. That makes spring the perfect time to perform routine pond maintenance, right before the summer heat kicks into full gear. A problem that might persist after the cold weather dissipates is undesirable growth in your water hole.

While a pond helps with irrigation and provides a property barrier, it can also be a challenge to keep clean. Proper maintenance will prevent a pond from being overrun with nuisance aquatic plants and algae. Although some plants can add beauty to a pond, an overabundance of them can decrease the overall aesthetics, and harm fish or organisms.

Pond owners have often used chemical treatments such as herbicides and algaecides to control the growth of algae and unwanted submerged plants. However, those chemicals are dangerous to everything else in the pond. Instead of using products that are harmful to the aquatic environment, buy controlled chemicals that only attack certain unwanted plants

Pond dye is a low-cost, all-natural alternative that manages plant life, while adding to the appearance of the pond. Adding dye prevents sunlight from reaching plants on the bottom of most ponds; the plants will not survive without that needed sunlight, creating a much clearer, cleaner pond. While dyes significantly reduce submerged aquatic plant and algae growth, they do not affect emergent plants such as cattails or floating leaved plants.

Along with being better for the environment, black pond dye is an excellent option to give ponds a deep mirror-finished look while maintaining the color of the pond. Black pond dye will make a pond look like a deep lake and mirror the surrounding landscape.

When applying dye to a pond, make sure to do it at the right time of the year. The dye is most effective if it is applied right before the plants would normally start to grow. Pond dye is one of the best preventive measures for getting an edge on the inevitable plant and algae growth of spring, so it should be applied in the early stages of spring, before the plants have begun to germinate.

Another benefit of pond dye is that it is easy to use. The dye just needs to be poured around the edge of the pond, and natural water movement will disperse the dye in twenty-four hours. Once dispersed, the dye will not stain people, pets, or fish.

Spring is the ideal time to apply black pond dye into your water: an environmentally friendly method to enhance ponds by preventing nuisance plant and algae growth. Having black pond water will make for an aesthetic delight.
