Black Pond Dye in Bulk: Cost Effective Plant Control for Creating a Stunning Body of Water

January 12, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 151

Bodies of water have a natural color that works well with their surrounding environment. Black is best for natural pools of water residing in or around wooded areas. An individual wanting to use pond dye should consider nearby elements of nature during color selection. Blue, while common, is better suited for manicured bodies of water with a more open landscape. Regardless of color, buying in bulk helps individuals who must re-treat consistently to maintain beauty by keeping algae at a minimum. Black pond dye in bulk cuts down associated costs and ensures a supply is always on hand when treatment is necessary. Dyes assist with two very big owner experienced nuisances: plants and algae. While some plants can increase aesthetic beauty, an overabundance of these items decreases the overall look of a pond and can negatively affect fish or organisms if not controlled.

Black Pond Dye: An Alternative Solution to Harsh Chemical Treatments

Previous solutions to plant growth problems were herbicides or some type of algaecide. Both were used to reduce outbreak occurrences by means of chemicals such as copper sulfate, endothall, or diquat. Even though chemical treatments are effective, numerous downfalls and legal restrictions affect if and how owners can use them. Black pond dye is a natural alternative any owner may use to affordably reduce growth without worrying about environmental harm. Plants or algae require a specific amount of sunlight to grow. Light making its way to the lower layers of a body of water allows for proper plant growth. Dyes reduce the amount of light received thus limiting the overall amount of plant and algae development in a pond or lake. These products are not as effective when water is shallow; however, they still supply enough of a reduction to make owners content with their use. Black pond dye does not decrease above water plants like cattails or lily pads.

What steps should an owner take when applying this growth control product? The product must be applied during the right time of year, have a set maintenance schedule, and water shedding should be taken into account. It is recommended to apply a treatment in early spring to inhibit germination as well as offer reduced seasonal growth. An owner should plan for re-treating if water shedding is frequent and can save money by buying black pond dye in bulk. A gallon will typically treat a one-acre pond with a depth of approximately five feet. The exact dosage rate for a dye product should be known before usage. Owners often face increased difficulty in color maintenance as the season progresses but can resolve this issue by re-treating. Applying the treatment around the edge allows natural movement to complete the process. It may take up to twenty-four hours for the dye to cover the area. This is becoming the preferred method of plant or algae control because it does not affect the environment, is safe for animals, provides equal effectiveness, and creates a certain visual appeal not obtainable through more traditional chemical treatments.

Black pond dye may be used to decrease growth during the warmer months. Buying black pond dye in bulk decreases costs and makes re-treatment easy for a consistently beautiful body of water.
