Advice For Your First Cruise

February 18, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 152

A cruise vacation is a fantastic way to visit many exotic destinations with little or no effort. Imagine travelling Europe or the Bahamas only having to unpack once. To maximise your first cruise experience we've compiled some handy tips and tricks so you can hit the ground running and not miss a second of the fantastic opportunities on board your ship. The beauty of cruising is that there is something for everyone; you can do as little or as much as you want.

Decide on which destinations you want to see, but also how you want to see it. There are many different types of cruise lines, each catering to a different demographic and style of traveller. Be aware of the time of year you are travelling. It may mean pushing your vacation back a week to avoid spring break or dreaded 'schoolies'.

Choosing your stateroom is another dilemma you will be faced with. If you are on a short cruise or a large ship with lots of activities that you wish to partake in, it may not be worth having a more expensive balcony cabin. Seeing you won't be spending much time in your cabin, an interior or ocean view room will save you money. If however, you just want to take things slow, read a good novel and stay away from crowds, then a balcony can be a perfect place to watch the world go by.

The one thing I always stress to new cruisers is to relax on embarkation day. Remember, not all restaurants and food outlets are open on this day, so there will be a larger than normal amount of people all vying for that shrimp on the buffet. Don't be afraid to take your food outside and sit by the pool if the dining area is too cramped. If your stateroom is ready, you can always order room service to avoid the crowd. From the first evening on, the crowds die down as the many restaurant options become available.

Every evening you will receive a newsletter delivered to your stateroom outlining the following days activities. You may want to take a highlighter to work out what you want to do on your first cruise. It will also give you information on dining times, shopping sales, spa services and port guides. Remember, all spa services are heavily discounted on port days as most people are off the ship.

Following some of the above advice will ensure your first cruise is a positive experience for you and your travel companions.
