A popular method is the use of food coupons. Every day there are literally millions of coupons available to the consumer which could cut the average food expenditure by as much as 30 to 50%. Google shows a result of 112, 000, 000 pages of results for the term "grocery coupons". That's a lot of money being saved by savvy shoppers! In fact coupon shopping has become a lifelong and gratifying hobby for many people.

It's easy to see why. Success comes easily and quickly in this game. With a little hard work and dedication even the casual coupon clipper can become a Super Saver. Patience and flexibility pay their own rewards.

Forget your loyalty to any one brand. This is economic war and you are in the front line. Never forget that coupons are designed by manufacturers to sell a particular product. The coupon designers' aim is to get you to the store. Once there, the idea is to tempt you with other offers, many of which will earn back the loss they have made on the coupon and more besides.

The best source of coupons is usually the Sunday newspapers, although they may be found anywhere. Other popular places to find coupons include the Internet, public libraries, and at the stores themselves.

To make the most of this cash saving strategy it is important that you organize yourself before you shop. Be sure to note expiration dates of coupons. Store your coupons by food type and carry them in an easily searchable purse or wallet. Match the coupons to your pre-prepared grocery list before you leave the house.

At home, clip your coupons on the day you find them. It is advisable to use a specific container to store them in such as a shoe box. Wasting time looking for coupons which you mislaid is not an effective use of your time to save money.

Store loyalty cards which include bonus points along with coupons are a good way to save. You are well on your way to Super Saver status when you combine coupons with sale prices. However, stores do not always allow such combinations. Be sure to check before you shop.

Be mindful of costs incurred by travelling to the grocery store. In fact some stores even accept their competitors coupons. It pays to compare cards and call ahead to the store to ask.

Be wary of two for one offers. It is not always a saving to buy two items when you only need one. This is particularly true of items with a short expiry date.

Although many people might feel self-conscious about using coupons they must realize that modern computers make this a much faster and easier method than it once was. There is no need to worry about holding up the line while the checker scans coupons.

Coupons as a method of saving on your grocery budget has advantages that outweigh many other forms of saving. However, it takes patience, practice and trial and error to get it right, but the rewards are worth the effort. Don't underestimate the heightened self-esteem you may feel by making the most of your budget using this method in a consistent manner.
