Among activities of different kinds, skating is especially popular among a large section of people. This is an art of moving your body on an icy or even a smooth surface with the help of special shoes.

The shoes are the key to skating and are called skates. Skates are boots that have a frame attached underneath to adjust the placement of wheels to make the shoes movable. You can glide away in different position as you are skating.

There have been innovations to the olden skates that were available. There are newer materials used and techniques of wheels adjustments are also made in newer ways. It enables skates for different kinds of ice sports and skating.

There are different activities like roller skating, figures skating and free style skating among many others. Then there are sporting pursuits that require the use of skates for its players like ice hockey. This is a powerful sport where controlled movements on sheets of ice are an important part of the game.

Ice Skates

A large part of skating is means to be done on ice surface. This is a surface that has been smoothened for the purpose. Alternatively, it can be an artificially crafted surface but with natural ice only. Though there are skating events that takes place on smooth surfaces like wooden created ones as well ice- skating has a special significance as the original choice.

The structuring of ice skates is a very important part of an event. Ice skates are used for athletic events like figure skating or even sport like ice hockey. There is a blade- like attachment under the boots, that is placed. It can glide through the hard surface of the ice by cutting through it. The cut is not meant to be a groove or a deep one.

Ice skates are built to give the wearer a comfortable grip over the slippery smooth surface of the ice. Otherwise, there will be chances of falling that needs to be prevented as much as possible.

Inline Skates

The nature of inline skating is one that involves greater speed and aggression during skating. There is an arrangement of wheels under the boots of these skates in an aligned manner. There is a line of wheels created in a frame in the same position of the blade in ice skates.

The total number of wheels varies from two to five in different range of skates. There are wheels that are meant to be like brakes and a stop for the player. These are placed at the heels instead of the toe region like in earlier ones.

They are designed to allow maximum comfort over fast and slow movements on ice.
