Using Appropriate Feng Shui Colors Is Essential For Effective Feng Shui Decorating Strategies

February 25, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 195

Feng Shui, the ancient Chinese art of maximizing the flow of positive qi through a space, is only growing in popularity. Many people in both the East and West choose to decorate or even build their homes and workplaces according to its principles in order to achieve a balance of good energies. If you're looking to begin practicing the modern version of this ancient art, this article will help you to understand the use of Feng Shui colors in improving the energy of your chosen space:

Yin Colors

Yin and yang are very important in Feng Shui; as in all things, they should be balanced. Black, purple, blue, green, pink and white are all yin colors, representing a range of emotions and energies centered on calm, peace and focus. Black represents power as well as protection, and is a water color along with blue (which, depending on its depth, can encourage growth or calmness). Purple is used in small amounts for meditation or healing, while the purity of white is acceptable almost anywhere. The healing powers of green and the calm, romantic tones of pink round out the range of passive Yin colors.

Yang Colors

The strong, active Yang colors include red, orange, and yellow, several specific shades of purple (such as maroon and lavender), brown, gold, tan and beige. Red is the color of passion and excitement, and one of the strongest Feng Shui colors. It is a Yang fire color along with orange (summer and socializing) and yellow (energy and sunlight). Brown is nourishing and balanced along with beige, tan, and other earth colors.

Combining Colors

Colors are rarely meant to take up an entire wall or room. In fact, they often reach their greatest potential by being combined with other colors. There are many different ways to do this, but they are often intuitive. For example, combining white and blue will recreate the sky, and these two colors work well in harmony. Similarly, you shouldn't combine colors like brown and grey, as grey represents metal and brown represents wood. As a metal axe would destroy a wooden tree, grey color will ruin the benefits of brown. This is only an introduction to this ancient and complex philosophy, and there are many more colors and details about each color than listed here. Research extensively before employing Feng Shui colors in your home or workplace so that you may understand how to truly maximize the flow of qi.
