The Curvy Garden Path Is Better Feng Shui Than The Straight Line Path

February 28, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 217

While this might be a minor detail on a small scale, the curvy or meandering path leading toward a front or back door is seen as a better conductor of chi flow than the straight walkway. "Chi" is often the term used to describe the energy which can be manipulated, harnessed or directed both on the inside and outside of a structure.

The reason we carefully control the flow of chi is to bring about better health and well-being. Sometimes the goals are even more explicit such as with relationships and money matters. This may still seem uncanny to those who have not studied Feng Shui deeply: that your physical environment can affect such mundane circumstances. Yet, the curved or circular movement can improve the quality of chi, compared to a straight line which is the conductor of more forceful energy.

In Feng Shui theory, we want the journey to be pleasant and we also want the end result to be healthy. Walking along a curved garden path or walkway can enhance the creative juices and slow us down a bit. Most of the time we are focused on the end result, our destination point being the opening of a door at the end of the path. In a garden setting, the end of the path may just lead us to another outside space for enjoyment and contemplation, such as a flower bed or water feature. With long straight lines, the chi becomes more forceful and this could activate negative energies at the door. This principle is taken even more seriously when we are considering the end result side effect of a structure being at the end of a cul-de-sac or a T-junction with a road.

Creating a curvy path is the ideal. But an already existing straight walkway can be altered by staggering some potted plants on both sides of the walkway, to create a small wiggle in the way the energy moves up and down that path.

Principles which relate to outside space and the natural environment can be called Landscape School, which is included in Form School Feng Shui. In fact, some Feng Shui scholars teach that the outside environment is more important than the interior environment. Xuan Kong practitioners employ the influences of the outside and the inside together; they go hand in hand. One perfect example is the curvy path (outside) collecting and harnessing chi (aka qi) and then when the door is opened at the end of that path, the energies of the interiors will be stimulated, for good or for bad. We can do counter measures with the exteriors and the interiors to bring about a better end result for those who use the space in question.
