Feng Shui Tips - How to Sleep Easily

April 03, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 163

For us to be able to make the most of our life we should always aim to get a good night's sleep. Sleep is when our body rests, replenishing our energy for the joys and rigours of the day ahead. A good, long restful night's sleep should be one of the easiest things in the world to achieve for it comes naturally to all of us. For many however it can be one of the hardest as we toss and turn restlessly, our minds churning with thoughts and worries. In this article I look at how something as simple as the placement of our bed can help us achieve what we all aim for, a restful night's sleep.

There are five key principles that we should adhere to when placing a bed in our bedroom. Below I highlight these five key principles and suggest remedies to use if it is impossible to adhere to each principle.

Principle 1

The bed should be beyond the mid line of the room.

Stand in the doorway of the bedroom and look in. There is a front half of the room (closest the door) and a back half of the room. The bed should ideally be situated in the back half of the room as it gives a greater feeling of security and protection and therefore enables us to have a more restful night sleep. If the shape or size of the room makes this impossible then we can either create a barrier between the door and the bed, for example by using a screen or a chest, or hang a crystal or wind chime from the ceiling midway between the doorway and the bed.

Principle 2

The bed should have a solid wall behind it.

Having a solid wall behind the bed gives us a feeling of safety and security. The ideal position would be to have the head of the bed against the back exterior wall of the house as this is the most secure location of all. If this is not possible the easiest cure for this is to ensure that we have a very solid headboard, the best are those that are either made of very solid wood or covered in very thick fabric. If there is a window behind your bed head make sure that you either cover the window with blinds that are impossible to see through when closed or very heavy curtains which must be closed when you are in bed

Principle 3

When we are in bed we should be able to see the door.

Seeing the door gives a feeling of greater security. The more secure we feel, the more likely we are to sleep. If you cannot see the door when you are in bed then the ideal cure involves a mirror, which is not something I would normally recommend in a bedroom. However in this circumstance it is OK to use a small mirror placing it carefully so that if you are sitting in bed you can see the door but you cannot see your own reflection..

Principle 4

The bed should not be in a direct line with the door.

When you are lying in bed you should not be in what is known as the coffin position, that is your feet are pointing straight out of the door. Neither should you be lying across the door at a ninety degree angle. To cure both of these problems either create a barrier between the door and the bed or hang a crystal or wind chime midway between the door and the bed.

Principle 5

Chi should be able to flow naturally around the bed.

For chi to flow around the bed the bed should be open on three sides and not pushed up against a wall. If the size or shape of your bedroom makes this impossible then to allow energy to flow harmoniously you should place a large red cloth beneath the bed which has the effect of stimulating any stagnant or trapped energy.

I hope that this article has shown you how easy it is to improve your chances of getting a good night's sleep. Nothing is insurmountable when looking at bed placement and even if what is practical is not ideal there are steps that you can take to improve the situation. In our own home in France the shape and location of our bedroom made it impossible to adhere to principles 1, 3 and 4. By the use of crystals, a decorative Chinese screen and a beautiful antique wooden chest we have however been able to overcome these problems and make the room a light, positive and above all restful space.
