What Are Online Fax Providers And How Do They Work?

October 03, 2011 | Comments: 0 | Views: 84

These days, almost all aspects of our lives, are being dominated by computers and the Internet. They have become so much a part of our daily routine, most people could not imagine going through their day, without using both of these modern inventions. So it's no wonder that our workplaces would follow the same route. Online fax providers are a part of our newly computerized lives and workplaces.

What are online fax providers?

Just as the name suggests, these are companies or services which offer online faxing to both individuals and businesses. Instead of using a traditional fax machine and a dedicated fax phone line, one can use a computer based, email fax service which operates in the online or virtual world. This is a form of "cloud computing" where your faxing is done or hosted on third party providers or servers.

For a small monthly fee, these online fax providers will handle all your faxing for you or your company. Once you sign-up, you're given a local or toll-free fax number which you can use. Many of these providers will also let you "port" your old or current fax number over to their services, but there is usually a small charge for this transfer.

How do they work?

With an online or Internet fax service your faxes are sent as email attachments, usually in a Tif or Pdf file. Your fax number can be connected with one or more email accounts, once you receive a fax, you will get an email telling you of the fax. You can also log on to your online account to receive/send your faxes. They can also be stored online for easy access and retrieval. Many providers will also give you a free desktop application which you can use on your desktop to send and receive your faxes. Others have phone apps which you can use.

Keep in mind, all these services are web based, so you can do your faxing anywhere and at any time, as long as you're connected to the web. Any portable device such as a cell phone, netbook, laptop or smart phone can be your virtual fax machine. This offers great freedom and mobility, especially for those businesses where faxing plays a major role for bringing in sales and/or staying in contact with employees and clients.

How do I get an Internet Fax Provider?

As mentioned above, all you have to do is sign up to receive your own fax number. Monthly rates are around $8 to $10, but there are cheaper options if money is an issue. You can even get a "pay as you go" service with no monthly fees, you just pay for each single fax as you need it. There are also less expensive providers which charge around $3 to $4 per month, but these services are very minimum.

Fortunately, most of the major Internet fax providers do offer a 30 Day Free Trial, so you can check out their services before you buy. This is the best route to take since you must make doubly sure you're getting a quality service with fast helpful support. Remember, this will probably be a long term business service, so doing a little homework now, could pay off big time down the road. Choose Wisely!
