Fax Through Gmail Using A Fax Service

October 18, 2011 | Comments: 0 | Views: 122

Millions of people around the World use Gmail. This free email service has become one of the most popular services along Hotmail and the number of users keeps increasing every day! Gmail addresses are used for different purposes and it doesn't have to be different when it comes to faxing online.

Email fax services have come a long way since fax through Internet technology became available almost a decade ago and now it can be used by users of all levels of expertise. These services allow you to send faxes from your email and also receive them thanks to a virtual Internet fax number.

So how can we integrate both accounts to be able to fax over Gmail? Luckily this is very easy and you just need to sign up for an email fax service, it doesn't matter if we are talking about a paid or free account. There are great companies out there offering fax services such as eFax, MetroFax, RingCentral and others; at the moment of signing up with one of them you will be asked to enter the email address associated to the faxing account. Just add your email and you are ready to go!

I recommend you create a separate Gmail account just to keep things organized. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, you can just create an address like the one you have but adding ".fax".

Once both accounts are linked, faxing will be as easy as sending a common email. Send a fax first by opening up a new message and attaching the file you wish to fax to it. The best service providers are able to handle a big number of different file formats, but it is always good to check out before sending the fax. This document will be converted into an image file that is both compatible with fax machines and computers (most services use TIFF files).

And that's not all. You will also be able to receive fax on your Gmail account when a similar conversion process takes place the other way. When someone dials your virtual number for faxing, the document is immediately sent to the fax servers where the fax image will be converted into a digital file, usually an Adobe Acrobat document, which can be easily opened in any computer.

As you can see, Gmail fax is possible and very easy to achieve with the help of a fax service. Unfortunately fax software isn't able to link faxing with your Gmail account, so it has to be dismissed as an alternative.
