Routines - Helpful to the Stay At Home Dad and the Children

December 29, 2011 | Comments: 0 | Views: 135

Parenting is one of the hardest jobs in the world to do, and while there is not one right way to do it, it can become very frustrating. Making your job as a stay at home dad (SAHD) can become easier though if you have a routine. A routine will help both the dad and the child/children. Establishing a routine will not take a whole lot of effort on your part. It just means coming up with a routine that is easy for both the dad and the child to stick with.

Lately there has been an increase in stay at home dads. Being a stay at home dad can be very hectic at times.

A routine will be easier for a child to fall into and they will know what to expect from day to day. A routine is ultimately what every child craves. A routine can comfort a child, so having one set in place will let the child know what is to come. Having a routine for the child will mean set eating times, set sleeping times, and even set playing times. This does not mean that the stay at home dad can not change things up a bit. But the eating and sleeping routines are a good idea.

A routine for a stay at home dad can help him feel accomplished. Make the stay at home dad feel as though he has gotten something done during the day. An added benefit for dads is that the children are better under control with a routine. They will not be as chaotic as they were if a routine was not in place.

Having a set nap time can be a wonderful downtime for a stay at home dad. During this time the dad can get much accomplished. If there is a set nap time, children will know that they need to rest for a while so dad can get some tasks done.

Some say routines are quite boring to follow through with. Routines should be set in place so it is easy for the day to progress. This does not mean that the dad has to do things the same day in and day out. You could say that lunch time is from 12:00 to 1:00. But each day you could change the routine up. One day you could have lunch at home, the next day you could have a picnic in the park. Maybe one day you will opt to have a picnic in the living room if it is rainy outside. This gives the child the routine, yet in a fun way, and makes the day less boring for all involved.

Staying at home with the children can be very rewarding. It does come with challenges, but they can be faced quite easily if a routine is set into place. Children will know what to expect, and the stay at home dad will be more apt to enjoy the time he has with his children. A win, win situation for both!
