Supplying For Your Countryside Pet

February 22, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 182

We all want the best for our pets - big or small, cats or horses. Depending where you reside, the types of pet supplies required to keep a pet safe, healthy and happy will vary. An indoor city cat would require litter, whereas a cat allowed to explore the countryside would probably not. Moreover, the varieties of countryside pets include cats, dogs, horses, pigs, and even chickens.

Canine companions who herd or work the countryside require higher calorie foods and treats than a dog living in a small flat. A working gun dog requires special training equipment and gear. And while all dogs should have access to flea protection and treatment, dogs that live countryside should be more closely monitored for such a problem than its city counterpart. Some houses in the countryside may require invisible fencing, so dogs can have free roam of the property without having to be fenced in or have the owner worry about their dog running away.

Cats that live in the countryside generally enjoy the luxury of roaming freely from property to property, but in case of a problem, should be supplied with a break-free collar and tag identifying its owner. Cats also need flea and tick products as well as tape worm tabs. While most outdoor cats are able to find their own food, sometimes hairball reducing food and treats may be required. Both cats and dogs who roam the countryside are prone to fungus and therefore their necessary pet supplies may include antibiotics, topical sprays, creams or wipes. They may also need to be bathed more regularly and therefore require gentle shampoos and conditioners as to not damage their skin from regular bathing.

More and more countryside home owners are increasing their pet family by caring for cattle, sheep, pigs and horses as pets. In addition to a barn or stable, proper care for a horse requires equipment, such as a head collar, lead rope, feed, saddle pads and saddle covers.

Chickens are also quickly becoming a popular pet. Chickens require special coops or arks, feeders and drinkers as well as incubators and, depending on your countryside location an electrical fence to protect them from wildlife. The same would apply to cattle or pigs and the more of each pet you own the more individual and specialised pet supplies you will require. It is imperative that you keep your pets happy and healthy when they are living in the countryside; ensuring that they have a free and lengthy life.
