Euro 2012 Fantasy Football - My Chosen Method

May 23, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 140

In my previous post, I explained the perfect mix of players to choose for your Euro 2012 Fantasy Football team. What some of you will have noticed however is that it is very difficult (although not impossible) to create a team of players from the best teams in the competition that are all going to play. The alternate approach includes "enablers".

This approach works on the idea that if you choose an extremely strong 11 players, you could fill in the remaining 4 spots with players who you'll never use at the lowest cost, enabling you to spend higher elsewhere. This effectively allows you to spend on average 7.27 on your main team instead of 6.66 as the cheapest players cost 4 each.

Let's look at a player like Keith Andrews of the Republic of Ireland. He's played significantly throughout the tournament so far and yet trades at just 4 points. Whilst you would not want to use him necessarily as a key member of your team, he's a great example of a player you could use "in case of emergency" who allows bigger spending elsewhere.

To my mind, Jelavic is another great enabler at just 5 points. He's been a revelation in the premier league and, whilst he's not guaranteed to play in all three group matches, I think he's a definite option in the first game against the Republic of Ireland.

To my mind, and I'll explain why in the latter articles, the preferred formation for this tournament is 3-4-3. You would therefore have to have Jelavic play (until the first transfer at least), whilst Andrews can sit quite happily as a sub waiting for an injury to occur. Within this formation you could really bring in 1 enabling goalkeeper, 2 defenders and 1 midfielder. These 4 players should have a combined cost of 16 points and I would suggest that the main team is made up of 2 spanish, 2 German, 2 English, 2 Russian, 2 Dutch and 1 French player. If you wanted to introduce another player into this mix, for example the excellent Jelavic, then I wouldn't deter you.

Have a look through the game for other enablers; they really only have two criteria, they should be likely to play and they should be dirt cheap! I'll be back with my next article soon showing my actual team. If you want to discuss any points that i've made in this article then please add a comment below, I'm always happy to discuss things in a little more detail.
