The Sugar Glider is gaining in popularity as a house hold pet. They are an Exotic animal. The Glider can be a lot to handle. It is not recommended that they are brought into houses that may have small children. Your new pet does require a lot of personal attention.

The Gliders were first introduced into the United States in the 1990's. They have been bred in captivity for some time now, but they still will keep their instincts from their wild environment.

These pets are a highly Social animal. They will bond easily with humans. But they will need a lot of one on one attention to survive. When taken care of properly they will be very enjoyable to have around. It has been known that they can actually die if they are neglected by their owners. Sugar Gliders are a Marsupial; they carry their babies in a pouch until they are fully developed. They can live up to fifteen years, about the same as a pet dog. They may resemble a flying squirrel because they appear to have wings like one, but they are not in the same family.

Sugar Gliders get their name because of two things. They love to eat sweets, such as nectar and sap. And also they their name comes from the fact that they can glide through the air.

When feeding your Glider one fourth of its diet needs to be some kind of protein. A variety of fruits and vegetables along with a meat product is what they will need to stay healthy.

In conclusion, having a Sugar Glider for a pet can be very rewarding, to you and your pet at the same time. They can be very cuddly but at the same time they are a very delicate creature. Handling and diet are both equally important aspects of caring for your pet.
