February 28, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 157

Exercise is always and will always be good for your heart and body and the benefits you'll get out from it are limitless! Whether you're fond of doing yoga, biking, trekking, or you are engaged in any type of sport or you just merely do brisk walking, the bottom line is that you're working your muscles out.

Life's conveniences far outweigh the benefits that you should get out from walking. Transportations, elevators and escalators are innovative and great. But these conveniences give you the reason to avoid taking the stairs and even take a walk home.

It is said that walking can be the best exercise regimen to any given age group. And talking three to four brisk walks a week could be the most health-conscious activity that you can at least do for your health and body.

How to get started? Below are some tips and recommendations for those people who are living a sedentary lifestyle and would like to take a step forward to better health and life.

Consult your doctor

Although walking as a form of exercise is safe and is accompanied by few risks, it is always best to consult your healthcare provider. You'll probably undergo with some cardiac and stress tests to determine your capability to undergo and cope with extreme stress like jogging. Once your doctor is done with the tests ask for your clean bill of health.

Start slow

If you've been living in your "couch-potato" world for about 10 year, don't even think nor try to walk 8-10 miles the first time you get off the couch. What you can do is to try to walk around your vicinity first. If you think that you can't take another step anymore and your heart is throbbing fast, you can now stop.

Starting slow is a good way not to over stress your heart and muscles. The next time you get off from your couch, try to aim and go a little longer. Soon, you can walk up to 10 miles without pushing yourself too hard.

Ask a friend to walk with you

It would be so nice if you can ask a friend, your partner, or even your kids to join you in taking a long stroll at the park. Walking with someone gives happiness, motivation and added spice to your exercise regimen. Being with someone you know which you can tell your jokes and stories will make exercise more fun and exciting!

Walking is commonly overlooked by many people but the rewards that you can reap out from 30 minutes of your time can bring a big difference to your overall health. So get up from the couch, put on your sturdy shoes and walk!
