Requirements for a Complete Home Fitness

February 22, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 133

Do you want to have a full body workout within the comfort of your home? You can forget about the expensive athletic club fees and make a complete exercise program with these essential items.

Your complete home workout must consist of 3 parts: a cardio exercise section to increase your pulse rate and improve your heart and lungs; a weight-training section to lose fat and increase tone of muscle; and also a stretching section to improve overall flexibility and make your body supple and limber. If you are pressed for time, you can do the cardio and weight training on alternate days.

Before starting any kind of new exercise routine, particularly if you weren't active for a while, it is advisable for you to speak with a doctor before you begin.

Let's Get It Started

You can get an excellent cardio workout by just taking a quick walk. If walking outdoors isn't an option because of bad weather or issues of safety, you might want to purchase a treadmill. Manual treadmill machines are economical alternatives for walkers, so if you're short on space, you could fold them up for storage space. Should you have a designated room or area in your own home for exercising -- or if you plan to run on your treadmill -- you will probably need a sturdier, automated model.

Make sure you have a very good set of footwear for the cardio workout. Walking, jogging, rope jumping -- all these exercises involve impact on your joints, and decent athletic shoes safeguard you from stress injuries. When the padding in the shoes begins to lose its spring, it is time for a new pair.

Pump It Up

Weight training in your home does not mean you need to purchase a complete home fitness with benches and pulleys. Dumbbells are low-tech, inexpensive and don't use up much room. But they're useful for many different workouts, plus they enable you better control compared to a machine, which means you will get much more targeted results.

A training ball is yet another affordable method to get some toning at home. These cool inventions allow you to use your own bodyweight for strength training work just like crunches and leg lifts. Most include an training video or manual that explains the right way to exercise with the ball. You will also need a hand pump to inflate the ball, so if you do not have one with you, find a ball that ship with its very own pump.

Be Sure To Stretch

Stretching is an important part of any workout, so don't forget to take the time to add it in your routine. Whether you follow yoga, Pilates or a combination of the two, stretching can help lower your injury risk by keeping your joints and muscles flexible. A yoga mat is helpful for cushioning a hard floor, and it has the added benefit of slip protection. Adding yoga or Pilates in your routine can also help firm and tone your body, and also decrease mental stress and tension for a greater sense of well-being. Here are to a happy and healthy new you!
