Why Choose a Wool Saddle Pad?

February 20, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 131

A Wool Saddle Pad is the "natural choice," when choosing a saddle pad. There are so many saddle pads out there saying they are the best. This one does this - this one does that-, but when searching, the answer is pretty simple and it is just a bonus that it is even natural. A Wool Saddle Pad has it all. It can breathe unlike synthetic materials. Sore spots are less likely to appear if they even appear at all because the horse's back is able to get the most air possible with wool. It whisks the moisture away from the horse's back by absorption so the horse is less likely get chilled from rapid drying, and it won't hold the heat in so it is cooler when they get heated up unlike some pads. It is the perfect choice. It is hard to get an answer out of these horses to know if they would choose wool, but almost every outdoor magazine you read chooses wool when it comes to an individual dealing with the elements, so it makes sense it would be more comfortable for them too. It simply keeps you drier than any other product out there, so it keeps you cooler by being able to breathe.

Fortunately you are not limited when choosing your wool saddle pad either. Diamond Wool makes a huge variety of saddle pads to fit anyone's needs for any type of riding. This includes the show pen, trail riding, endurance and English. There are a variety of pad thicknesses depending on the amount of "impact" or weight the horse's back needs to be protected from. There is also a great pad called the Pressure Relief Pad that is great for anyone with saddle fit issues. You can read more about it at Show Me Supplies, but it has three separate pockets on each side that has added shims that can be taken out or added, to help make the saddle fit with the curvature (or lack of curvature) of the animals back. Because the pockets and shims are built into the pad unlike some other saddle fit pads, the shims and pad stay in place. No more starting off on a ride and ending up with the pad sticking half way out behind the saddle. This pad is also the perfect solution for mules because of the removable shims to accommodate their flat back.

Everyone rides a different style and for different reasons but there is no better material that can be used to keep your horse comfortable and free from soreness as a wool saddle pad.
