Tips for Selecting an Equestrian Body Protector

If you are living the equestrian lifestyle and regularly ride horses then you already know that safety is an imperative characteristic needed to be interpreted into everyday life. It does not matter if your horse is the best-behaved - they can still get frightened and an unfortunate accident could occur. To prepare for this, it is important that you make sure that you carry out all the safety procedures necessary - one of these being an equestrian body protector.

Equestrian body protectors are a kind of safety which can go underneath or over your everyday equestrian clothing choice. These are designed to absorb high levels of energy from either a fall, a kick from a horse or being stood on by a horse thus giving you an extremely good level of safety in the case of a bad event. Also, they are typically made from a material that softens and moulds to the body when warm thus providing complete comfort and flexibility when wearing them.

Some of this specific safety apparel are unfortunately not as good as they advise you they are, so you need to be extremely careful when choosing one so that you are actually safe. There are some points that you will need to consider when investing in this particular item of safety attire. By following these tips you can be sure that you are safe when riding.

Make sure the product description (if buying on the internet) of the body protector, it says they are made using UltraFlex; this should be on the label if buying in a shop. UltraFlex is the material which gives body protectors their comfort characteristic. Without this it will not be of high quality and very stiff.

You should always check the item that you are buying is approved by the British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA). This particular association tests all body protectors on their ability to withstand a specific amount of weight, making them safe for the buyer before they are manufactured and sold. As said before, safety is extremely important and BETA realises this so it is imperative they have passed this particular test to ensure your complete safety.

Another point to consider is the fact that usually the materials used to keep you safe when wearing this particular safety accessory can become worn if aged. It is also recommended from BETA that you change your equestrian body protector every 3-5 to prevent risk of a serious incident where it is too worn to keep you protected. Also, remember to replace them after a knock or fall as they could have potentially become damaged.
