How to Dress Appropriately For a Horse Show

February 23, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 157

Many equestrian riders tend to over pack when traveling to a show but if you stick to the very essentials that you need then there is no need to do so. It is important that you and your horse look your best when attending a horse show - helping you catch the eye of the judges. There are many ways that you can catch the judge's eye subconsciously and deciding on the outfits you want to wear is a difficult task.

When riding in a competition you want to make sure that you wear something which allows your horse to stand out amongst the rest. Along with this, you need to be colour co-ordinated with your choice of saddle as this adds elegance and style to your whole presentation. Many people tend to spend a lot of money on their show gear, especially when it is an important event, but you do not need to do this to catch the judge's attention.

When choosing what you should wear you should take into consideration what your horse is wearing also - this makes it look like you can work better together. A light horse is better complimented by a dark colour and vice versa; be sure to interpret this into the specific attire you are wearing. It is also not recommended that you dress in all-black as a lot of the competitors there will be doing just that and you want to stand out!

It is seen as extremely professional if your chaps, boots and hat match the same colour as they add co-ordination into your routine. The colour that you choose should fit in well with the colour usually used in an event but it should also be a little daring. For example, an alternative for full black dressing is choosing a deep purple or a midnight blue ergo giving you the opportunity to stand out without breaking any rules. For older riders the typical outfit would include:

A black, pinstriped or navy show jacketKhaki or white show breechesTall or paddock black bootsA suitable show shirt that matches your horse's tackA helmetGloves

A typical young person's outfit would include:

Navy, khaki or beige coloured breechesAn appealing and stylish show jacketA pair of paddock boots or long bootsA helmet

By sticking to these simple guidelines you are sure to impress the judges with your excellent choice of attire. If you are confident with your skills choosing an extravagant way of dress is a fantastic way to show them off. Equip yourself with these and you will have the judges crawling at your feet!
