Parts Washer Solvents: Dipping Methods Offer Certain Advantages

April 16, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 120

Parts washer solvent can be applied by spraying, immersion, or brushing, depending on the extent of cleaning and the size of the component. Immersion involves placing the components into a solution to cover the entire surface. It is the best option with batch removal because it allows components to be placed into a basket or rack for dipping. Immersion tanks are also well suited when a part requires soaking due to shape or certain contaminant types. While not the fastest method, this process suits any cleaning need and works with multiple types of solvents. It can be performed at room temperature or in a heated atmosphere depending on the degreaser being used. Agitation or part movement increases the performance of this process.

Batch spraying entails a pressure washer and hot water in a containment chamber or system. Performance depends upon factors such as the supplied pressure, concentration of chemicals, set time, water temperature, operator experience, and the induction system. Immersion or dip tanks combine hot water with a chemical solution to perform agitation. The tank design plays a big role in how effectively impurities are removed from parts.

How has Degreaser Equipment been Altered to Improve Solution Usage?

Immersion methods have additional benefits regarding the amount of degreaser used and the amount of emitted Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). The latest designs include features such as:

  • Touch Screen Operation
  • Status Indicators
  • Emergency Stop Button
  • Minimal Operator Involvement
  • Complete Parts Dipping
  • Support of a Gridded Basket for Maximum Exposure
  • Standard 110/220 Voltage Requirements
  • Low Maintenance
  • Simple Filter Changes
  • Made of Stainless Steel

Automated features decrease spending and cleaning time requirements without degrading performance. An operator loads the parts into the basket, chooses a cycle via the touchscreen, and then lets the equipment do its job. A jet stream of solvent is provided in conjunction with the agitation process to ensure the parts washer solvent can reach difficult cleaning areas.

Cleaning equipment is compatible with MIL-PRF 680 solvents to ensure hazardous air pollutants are not present. Industrial environments use this equipment to remove contaminants such as grease or oil from surfaces by means of a mechanical action such as agitation or brushing. Many gallons of a solution are stored in a pan located near the bottom of the machine. A liquid pump sends clean solution through a nozzle onto the materials being submerged or sprayed. Contaminants fall to the bottom of the tank in these designs while dipping methods place the entire part into the base. The above mentioned equipment qualities make immersion methods more reliable and cost effective. Status indicators make it easier for the operator to identify problems for the appropriate actions. They inform an individual of issues like dirty filters, low solvent levels, low air pressure, or an open door. Stainless steel construction allows the equipment to have a longer service life. This process can be combined with a safer parts washing solvent to provide the best results while lowering handling and environmental risks. A company should seek these among other features when considering this method of contaminant removal.

Parts washer solvent risks can be decreased with a lower toxicity solution or improved equipment. Systems making use of degreasers have been advanced to reduce usage quantities.
