Online Electrical Training: Your Guide to ISO 50001

April 18, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 196

Courses providing electrical training, from Bristol to Bangkok, should now be offering all the information you need about ISO 50001. This essential new international standard for energy management systems was adopted in mid-2011 and, with time and hard work, should significantly contribute to the reduction in the World's energy use and overall Carbon footprint.

So what is ISO 50001? In this article we'll be offering online electrical training to talk you through what it is, how it works and what it hopes to achieve.

What is ISO 50001? ISO 50001 is a set of voluntary standards which will help both public and private sector organisations with strategies to manage and boost energy efficiency, lower the cost of energy and maximise energy performance. All good electrical training courses should now be offering ISO 50001 training to ensure that all electrical work is conducted to ISO 50001 to ensure we are building a better, Greener future.

What does ISO 50001 do? ISO 50001 will help to ensure that all public and private sector organisations are working to use energy efficiently. As any student undertaking electrical training will know, the more efficiently energy is used, the more cost-effective it is and the better it is for the environment.

This set of standards provides organisations across the world with a single set of criteria to work towards and meet. Since ISO 50001 is global, it is of particular use to large multinational companies looking to implement a cohesive strategy for all of their operations.

So why is this all so important for those currently undertaking electrical training? Well, for starters, it is future electrical experts who will be helping to assess the changes needed and implement the strategies laid out in ISO 50001. There are a number of goals for organisations to aim for laid out in this new set of standards and many of them will require the skills of a clued-up electrician to fulfill.

The ISO 50001 methodology encourages organisations to:

  • Promote the use of best practices and provide positive reinforcement for good energy management.
  • Help organisations to evaluate and prioritise implementing new, efficient energy technologies
  • Help facilities to use their energy consuming assets more economically, efficiently and responsibly

These are key areas in which relevant electrical training will allow electricians to make a big difference and flourish.

The future of ISO 50001 The ultimate goal of ISO 50001 is to directly influence up to 60% of the world's energy use! This may sound far-fetched, but over a long period and with substantial drive, effort and electrical/energy expertise, ISO 50001 could start to make a real impact on the world's Carbon footprint and our global approach to energy usage.
