OSHA Law Insanity - It's An Unfortunate Regulatory Reality

April 01, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 139

It is amazing how many politicians tell us that they are the answer to creating jobs in America. However, what I think is even more amazing is that anyone believes that the government is really able to reduce bureaucracy enough to help the free-market system operate correctly. After all, it often appears that the government's number one job is to get bigger, and invade our lives more and more. It's even more so evident in the free-market. If you doubt what I'm saying, go ahead and start your own business, and you'll see soon enough.

Okay so, let's talk about this for a moment shall we. Not long ago, I read a great article about OSHA Laws and Regulations. Indeed, it was explaining the pros and cons of OSHA laws. It explained how workers could feel safer in the workplace, and it held businesses accountable. It also spoke of the challenges to self-employed contractors having to deal with OSHA inspectors which might come onto the property or onto a job site at any time, and could shut down the entire project, and even throw people in jail if they felt they had fraudulently violated the rules.

One thing that bothers me is the overbearing nature of OSHA rules and how unions have helped shape them through strong-arm lobbying in Congress. Also, the over lawyering which is making it tough to even hire people these days, the fear is causing challenges to job creation, and the insurance costs for worker's comp. Worst of all the OSHA laws are some 56 stories high if you stack all the pages on top of each other - again totally outrageous.

Of course, OSHA is just one federal agency, and let's not forget all the regulatory issues we have to deal with at the city, state, and county levels as well. Not to mention special assessment districts, and all sorts of other jurisdictions that you may or may not have ever heard of, until one day you start a business, and you learn the hard way. Is that any way to treat employers in our great nation - the very employers who create jobs in the free market.

Some would say that government creates jobs, however each time the government creates one job in a regulatory bureaucracy, generally they end up putting several small businesses under, therefore killing jobs. Further, to run all these regulatory bodies takes a tremendous amount of money, and that money comes through taxation. Isn't it interesting that the businesses are paying taxes to the government, so the same government can come back and harass them? That hardly seems fair to me, how about you? Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.
