EFT - Gently Does It For Fear Release

February 26, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 165

With a technique like EFT, healing can be rapid and profound. That is good. However, it is also good to exercise caution in the speed of progress.

Let me explain. My training started with Reiki, massage, and hypnotherapy, where we were trained to ask the client for 6 sessions and take things one step at a time. The hypnotherapy I was trained it was designed to get to the root causes, but not until the client had two calming sessions first dealing with what is on the surface. When I started doing EFT, there were times when I dropped that caution. Most of those times were met with success. However, in a small minority of cases, it was too much. The client's subconscious mind put up a massive protective block, either severely hindering and slowing the process or stopping it altogether. So I soon learned to go back to my original training, where the deep root causes are not approached in the first two sessions. And the results speak for themselves.

Take the example of Tami (not her real name), who came to see me for stage fright and fear of interviews. In the first session, she reported trembling ruining her performances as a musician. By the second session, she had not only enjoyed a calm piano performance at college, but also a calm photo-shoot applying for a job as an extra in a film. Had I brought up root issues in the first session, we would not have had time to give her enough calm, and she would not have had as much confidence in the method.

In the second session, I also stuck to treating small events. One that surfaced for healing was a singing performance Tami did last year. When we started tapping (doing EFT), this gave her an intensity of 1. Out of 10, and soon it was a 6, then a 2, and then Tami was too relaxed to even speak. I was tapping on her as she lay down comfortably on the couch, and so that was fine.

Afterwards, I gave Tami a choice for the next session. I asked her if she wanted to work on the surface of another issue she came to me with, which was the fear of dirt, or whether she preferred that we dig for root causes to be healed. Empowered with the choice, she chose the root causes. This preempts the whole thing, and now she has a week of preparing in her mind for allowing these to come forth in a supportive and safe way.

Maybe Tami could have gone there faster. But to be honest, EFT works so fast that it is OK if we get there in a few sessions. After all, if Tami had done talk psychotherapy or counseling instead, it may have taken her years to get to a point of almost-calm. EFT works so fast, there is no need to rush it. Gently does it. Tami is happy with her progress.

If you are reading this and EFT is new to you, you can download a free guide from many online resources and get to know more. EFT is short for Emotional Freedom Techniques and is based on the premise that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system. EFT uses stimulation of the acupressure meridians whist using releasing wording, in order to release energy disruptions. As well as online guides, there are EFT workshops given in many countries, and EFT online teleclasses, where you can find out more, or you can dive right in and see an experienced practitioner.

With thanks to Tami who agreed to have her story published.
