5 Advantages of an Email Autoresponder

This article is aimed at those of you who are beginners when it comes to email marketing and may not even know what an autoresponder is or does. It really is impractical to consider doing email marketing on any scale without the aid of an autoresponder system. There are a number of them out there. One good free option is MailChimp. When you get to a certain size you will need a paid option and Aweber is probably the best option. But I'm getting ahead of myself, so let me explain the advantages of using an email autoresponder and in the process you will come to understand what it is and does.

Advantage 1: Automation

This is the big one. An autoresponder will allow you to set up emails which will be sent out automatically to the subscribers on your list. It is possible to send emails out to multiple recipients using ordinary email accounts like Outlook but there are limits placed on the number of people you can send to at any one time and it is generally not encouraged.

Advantage 2: Scheduling

With an autoresponder you can create a sequence of emails and schedule exactly when they will be sent out to your list. Typically this is done in reference to when the person joins your list. So, for example, you schedule an email to be sent out 1 day after they join, or 1 week and so on. The big advantage here is that once you have set the sequence up for the first person on your list, it will automatically kick in whenever anyone else joins without you having to lift a finger.

Advantage 3: Opt-in Forms

Along with the ability to create and sequence emails, you will also be able to design and set up what is known as an opt-in form. This is the little form you will have come across on most websites these days that invites you to enter your name and email address and maybe some other details in order to subscribe (join) their email list and receive more information via emails on a regular basis. You don't need to know any technical stuff just how to click and paste.

Advantage 4: Segmentation

Another brilliant advantage of using an autoresponder is the ability to send emails out to particular segments of your list. You can use this to send an email out to just those who joined over the last month for example. You can segment them according to their interests or any other characteristic that is useful for you so that you can send a targeted message to the right section of your list.

Advantage 5: Statistics

Autoresponder programs also provide you with a lot of really useful statistics. You can see who has opened your emails. You can find out who clicks on links in your emails and so on. This is really useful information to help you refine and improve your email marketing.
