Who Needs PAT Testing

November 18, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 214

PAT testing is one of those tricky grey-areas when it comes to both who needs them and to what extent the law demands them. According to the 1987 Consumer Protection Act and 1994 Electrical Equipment Regulations, all electrical goods supplied by any given party or those made available for the use of any number of parties must be safe. This in turn means that all electrical appliances sold both brand-new and second-hand must comply and be of guaranteed safety, while all appliances available for use in commercial and industrial environments must also be safe for use – products available from www.pat-services.co.uk/seaward-europa-pat-tester-254.htm now being seen as mandatory. In addition, the responsibility also falls with landlords and residential building owners to ensure that the electrical appliance and circuits present in their building are 100% safe for residents and visitors alike.

However, the whole situation is made considerably more complicated by the fact that although ensuring this kind of safety is 100% mandatory by law, the government doesn’t actually impose any restrictions or specifics on how the tests should be carried out, who they should be carried out by or how often.

This is precisely why the PAT testing standard has become THE standard for the UK as a whole, representing the only truly viable way of testing and re-testing appliances and electrical circuits for safety. PAT testing is now effectively seen as mandatory by the vast majority of businesses, commercial environments and industry sectors across the board, given the way in which the presence of electrical circuits and appliances is practically total.

As such, the answer to the above question is one whereby although not a single person, business or building needs to make use of PAT testing by law, each and every one simply must ensure that they are full PAT tested in order to remain safe.

The good news for those likely to need PAT testing on either a constant or a large-scale basis is that over the course of recent years, high-end testing kits including the Seaward Europa Plus and other industry standards have become massively more affordable and simpler to use than ever before – all showcased at http://www.pat-services.co.uk/seaward-europa-pat-tester-254.htm.  Of course, a certain level of competence and knowledge is still mandatory for carrying out tests safely and accurately, but it has never been more possible to go about such tests in-house or in-person with an industry-quality kit from a reputable provider.

PAT testing incorporates various additional elements including the production of reports and accurate labeling – it really isn’t a task to be attempted without prior knowledge and understanding.
