What Makes for a Good PAT Tester?

November 16, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 172

It is easy to fall into the trap of thinking that there are no such things as good or bad PAT testers on the market today, given the way in which the process is seen by so many as a box to be ticked and little more. Sadly however this is very much far from the case and things aren’t quite as simple – the difference between competing PAT testers really is like night and day. And more unfortunate still is the way in which those on the lesser side of the industry have the potential to present an unacceptable danger to their customers and the end-users of the appliances, who will of course to a certain extent take for granted that they are safe, when they are in fact not.

So, the important question to ask is that of how exactly can a person evaluate what makes a good PAT testing service?

Background

First and foremost, an excellent way of determining whether or not a service is up to scratch is to look into its background, or indeed a lack thereof. Generally speaking, it is always massively safer to go with a dedicated PAT service with a long background in the industry, as opposed to something of a “jack of all trades service” that dabbles a little in PAT on the side, for example. High-quality and safe PAT testing takes a great deal of knowledge and experience to carry out – never forget this.

Equipment

Another quite enormously important point to consider is the equipment they use as to say things had come along quite the way in the last couple of decades would be an understatement. Just a brief look at the fluke 1651 multifunction tester for example found at http://www.pat-services.co.uk/fluke-1652-17th-edition-tester-198.htm should be enough to see exactly what it means to be state of the art in the world of PAT. Those testing services that use the most up to date equipment will always be proud enough to boast this to the world, therefore represents an important consideration to watch out for.

Customer Care

Last but not least, a good PAT package should not be a case of filling out a form, having a small team invade the premises and then leave with a bunch of stickers left behind and little more. No, it must be a comprehensive service package including an initial consultation, a fully-supervised inspection of the premises and ongoing care for any further questions or concerns. This combine with elite tools like the Fluke 1652 found at www.pat-services.co.uk/fluke-1652-17th-edition-tester-198.htm adds up to a truly safe and viable PAT testing service.
