Save Money With LED GU10 Bulbs

April 16, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 158

Did you know that the lighting in a typical home can account for up to 25% of your total monthly electric bill? By upgrading your lighting to a low energy equivalent you stand to save substantial amount of money, as well as lowering the environmental impact of your home.

A straight switch to LED GU10 can do exactly that. LED Bulbs use less energy than conventional halogen spotlights, last up to ten times longer and produce small amounts of heat. Over the life time of a single bulb you can expect to save somewhere in the region of £216. Now multiply this figure by the number of incandescent light bulb you have in your bedroom, bathrooms and kitchen. The savings soon add up!

GU10 Bulbs greatly simplify the process of lowering your monthly lighting bills. Follow our simple step-by-step process and you will be saving money in no time.

1. Start by changing all of your old incandescent light bulbs. While the upfront cost of an incandescent bulb is comparatively low, their high energy consumption means that they could end up costing several times their retail price over their standard lifetime.

2. Switch to LED lights. Buying LED GU10 for general lighting is relatively expensive, but the bulbs have an incredibly long life span (over 50,000 hours) and most will only cost a few pence to run. Overtime, the combined savings made on replacements and electricity will justify the initial cost of your LED GU10 several times over.

3. Choose an LED GU10. LED GU10 Bulbs are designed as direct replacements for existing GU10 spotlights and are available in a range of equivalent wattages. A typical LED GU10 will use roughly 4 watts, but will still deliver the same amount of light as an equivalent 50 to 60 watt halogen bulb (some LEDs can even manage 100 watts). All you need to do is find a suitable replacement for your existing light bulbs.

4. Some customer tend to be put off by the high upfront cost of LED GU10 and are instead tempted to opt for traditional energy saving bulbs instead. These are called CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lamps). CFLs are notable for many shortcomings, including a shorter life expectancy, a poorer quality of light and long start up times, and losing their full brightness long before they expire. Even more controversially, CFLs contain a harmful substance called Mercury, which complicates their disposal.

If you decide to switch to LED GU10 Bulbs, here is what you need to do next:

1. First, walk around your home and make a list of all the light bulbs you need to replace. Make sure the bulbs you are replacing have a mains voltage LED GU10 fitting.

2. Compare the wattage on your existing bulbs with the equivalent wattage of the LED GU10 Bulbs you propose to buy. Also check the beam angle is suitable for your purposes. If you fancy more of a flood light effect why not try GU10 SMD Bulbs.

3. The last thing to do is get your step ladder (careful), remove all of your incandescent or halogen light bulbs and put your new Bulbs in. You will begin saving money straight away!
