What are the three easiest ways to stop eating continuously?

You have all read a lot about different ways to stop eating, about emotional eating, overeating, binge eating and so on. Many of you have tried at least one so you have your own experience about what works and what not. Are there any simple, proven methods that can help you deal with these problems?

I will offer you my answers:

  • Find the real cause and deal with it
  • Quick fixes
  • Create a supportive environment.

Let's develop a little bit.

1. Find the real cause and deal with it

This is one of the best ways to stop eating. It simply address the real cause of the problem. You have to realize where this need comes from. What's the real reason that drives you to eat? In most cases it's an emotional not physical drive. Maybe you feel alone, isolated, rejected, or worthless, guilty? Ask yourself: Am I really hungry? If not, why do I see my hand in the bags of chips?

When you find the real cause, deal with it. If you eat because you feel isolated, call a friend. Feel worthless? Do something to feel worthwhile. Feel rejected? Help somebody! Feel guilty? Forgive yourself.

2. Quick fixes

Although fast and simple these ways to stop eating are very effective. Drink 2-3 cups of water. Chances are your crave will fade. Drink a cup of tea, or something hot. It must be hot in order to make you drink slowly. Put some honey in the tea to cool your sugar cravings.

If you are home, you can try a little self-massage. Take off one of your slippers and put your foot over a rubber ball or tennis ball. Rub it gently for a minute or two. Your heart rate will be slower and your stress hormone level will drop.

3. Create a supportive environment

These are proactive ways to stop eating. Do not buy too much food. Take it out of your room. Put all your problem food deep down in your fridge. Ask your partner or your parents to keep the cakes and the chips in a cupboard. Then turn off the TV. Take a walk, alone or better with your pet. Pick up the phone and call your friends, find someone willing to support you. Team up with those in the same boat as you. Join an online support group. You will get plenty of friends, ideas and motivation to help you along.

Final thoughts

I am perfectly aware there are many other good methods to stop eating. I chose these three because, in my opinion, they are effective and simple. I tried to address the whole continuum of human typology, from rational to emotional, from extrovert to introvert. Also, I have tested them in my personal life so I can tell you they work. My experience has been positive and I invite you to check them out. At least one should work for you, no matter who you are and where you are from. Love yourself, give your body a chance to be happy.
