Diets Work on the Body - Not the Mind

June 24, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 157

Each year, billions of dollars are spent supporting the diet industry. In actuality, it's one of the most popular subjects in the media, today. If you walk into the average bookstore, you'll notice that an entire section is devoted to literature on how to lose weight by adhering to the new and "effective" plan that is "guaranteed" to help you lose the weight that is currently keeping you from looking your best. One of the interesting things that you'll also see is that an unusual number of these diet books have somehow made it to various bestseller lists. If that's the case, then certainly they must work. Right?

Well, it depends on how you look at it. It's obvious that controlling your caloric intake will help you lose weight. So people are quick to search out an easy-to-follow plan that will make the extra pounds disappear. But the unfortunate truth becomes apparent when you actually buy one of those books, follow the diet and lose weight. The weight doesn't stay off. At that point, the dieter will become confused and frustrated. This is especially true of those who have tried multiple diets and keep getting the same disappointing results.

Because the diet industry is so profitable and because the media obsesses over physical appearance, the truth won't be found in the first chapter of those diet books (where it should be). The truth is this; "Diets work on the body - not the mind." If your weight problem is the result of overeating, then the issue will most likely stem from something other than being attracted to Häagen-Dazs. After all, if someone is willing to spend money on a book and put themselves through the rigors of dieting, then it must hold true that they're serious about losing weight.

The truth of the matter is that there is usually an underlying root cause that defeats the efforts of dieting and eventually causes the individual to regain the weight they lost (and more). In order to truly address the subconscious issue(s) that may stem from; traumatic episodes, fear and other hindrances, one must be able to speak directly to the subconscious. This is why so many people are now turning to hypnotherapy and meditation. By seeking the services of a trained and certified hypnotherapist, one is doing far more that just trying to limit caloric intake without understand why the overeating is occurring in the first place. Once the basis for lack of self-esteem, anger, fear, depression or other issues that are currently controlling your behavior are understood, then you can begin the work needed to free yourself from those limitations. At that point, you can be the individual that you have always wanted and deserve to be.
