9 Tips to Avoiding Overeating

June 04, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 168

Overeating is a difficult problem, but is not entirely unsolvable. Overcoming the urge of overeating can be done with proper mindset, dedication and careful observation of the little details of your behavior. For quick remedies and preventive measures, these little tips might offer a great deal of help.

Visualize your desired results.

It is always important to first and foremost make up your mind if there is anything that you would do. Overcoming your problem of overeating is not an exception. So before you officially start your quest, mentally rehearse your diet habits. Be mindful of your tendencies. Get to know yourself well. If you have done this, then you're ready to go.

• Eat on a REALLY slow pace.

This can make you more aware of the signals that your body is giving you. If you do otherwise, it will be hard for you to notice that you're already full. Using a bowl and a pair of chop sticks especially if you're not used to doing it can help you eat slowly. Or you can have a little chatter while you're eating.

• Eat multiple but little meals. Don't go any longer than 5 hours without eating something

If you want to eat slowly in your meals, doing this would be really helpful as this would keep your stomach busy and tell you that you are already full earlier. This has an added benefit such as keeping your belly small because it does not overstretch your stomach. If you do otherwise, your stomach will bombard your brain with strong hunger signals which can make you go berserk and off to binging.

• Drink a glass of water or have some soup just before you eat.

Fill up the space in your stomach with some liquids before you eat as this will make your stomach tells you that you are already full early.

• Eat some fruits or fat-free salad before your meal

Start your meal healthy by eating an apple or an appetizing salad to again, full the space of your stomach before you eat your main entree.

• Put only little food in your plate.

If you are in a buffet, remember that you can always return to the serving table to refill your plate. Also, when ordering a la carte, remember that it's not necessary for you to finish your plate. If you have ordered a large meal set in a restaurant, tell your server to pack up the 'extra' portion of your food for you to eat later while you eat the portion that is enough for you at the time.

• Be mindful of your habit when you are being emotional. Face your problems accordingly, and not by overeating.

It's important that you recognize what you're still capable of doing and what are those that are out of your control. You are the first person who should notice your own behavior, but if any one of your closest companions noticed something you haven't noticed yet about yourself, consider.

• Try not to do anything while eating such as watching TV, reading a book or playing video games.

Focusing on other things can make your brain oblivious to the signals that your body is giving you. You might not know that you already have enough because your full attention is on your book or in your game.

• Do it with those who share your desire to stop overeating

Anyone could need a little motivation from fellows who share the same passion as you have. If you are really serious in putting a stop to your problem, then attending a seminar will do just good.

So there you go. These are but little tips to help you in your quest. However, if you have been failing to do these little things, then it's best for you to seek professional help.
