"Don't forget your coat!" "Don't forget your scarf!" "Don't forget your mittens!" Our little ones are learning lots of new things and recognizing item of clothing is no exception. You care about what your children are wearing, but do they know that God cares about how they are clothed? Colossians 3:12 is a great verse to help your preschoolers learn this truth. It says, "Clothe yourselves with...kindness..." Here is a fun Bible memory verse activity to help your little ones learn this verse along with clothing items and ways to be kind. It's called "What Should I wear?"

Here's what you do:

For this Bible memory verse activity you will need to prepare pictures of the following clothing items.

1. dress shoes

2. socks

3. pants

4. shirt

5. coat

6. gloves/mittens

7. scarf

8. hat

9. bathing suit

10. dress/suit

11. sandals tennis shoes

On the back of each of these pictures, place a picture of one of the following:

1. Mom

2. Dad

3. Grandma

4. Grandpa

5. Teacher

6. Pet

7. Baby sister

8. Brother

9. Friend

10.Dentist

11.Neighbor

12.Jesus

You may want to laminate these pictures for long-term use. Next, you will need a copy of the riddles found below. Finally, you might want to print a copy of this short poem on the board for all to see:

God cares about the clothes I wear

Like pants and shirts and shoes

But God says I should also wear

Kindness all day through

Here's how to play:

Place all 12 pictures, clothing side face up, on a pocket chart or out on a table for all your children to see. Introduce Colossians 3:12, then explain that you are going to ask the children a riddle about different kinds of clothes. You will pick one child to come forward and find the correct picture that answers the riddle. After the picture has been chosen, turn the card over and reveal the picture of the person (or pet) on the back. Have the class now recite the short poem. At the end of the poem you will act out the following ways to show kindness to the person as listed below:

1. Mom - give a kiss

2. Dad - give a handshake

3. Grandma - give some flowers

4. Grandpa - give a hug

5. Teacher - give a flower

6. Pet - put some food in his bowl

7. Baby sister - tickle her tummy

8. Brother - share a candy bar

9. Friend - call on the phone

10. Dentist - brush your teeth

11. Neighbor - give a high five

12. Jesus - pray to Him

After the child guesses the action of kindness, say something like the following: "Good job! You know how to clothe yourself in kindness!"

Play the game again with a new child and ask him a new riddle. Have fun!
