Ways On How to Overcome Jet Lag

April 25, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 182

Most people prefer to just sleep away the feeling of jet lag when they get the time to rest in their destination. This is because mostly, they attribute the feeling to the long flight and the potentially sleepless night throughout the trip. However, beating or overcoming jet lag actually extends from the simple act of sleeping out the time difference of your original location from your destination.

There are things you can do before your actual flight to ensure that you would be able to at least lessen the effects of jet lag on you. You can try to research on the time difference of your current location to where you are going. This can help you adjust your sleeping pattern to accommodate the differences. But if the two places are really far apart from each other, you might want to arrange for stopovers where you can spend one night on and be adjusted to the differing time zone along the way. On the night before you board, it would help if you catch up on your rest.

Meanwhile, during your flight it would help if you condition your mindset by adjusting the hands of your wristwatch to the time of your place of destination. You must also drink lots of water to keep you hydrated and to abate the symptoms. However, avoid caffeine and alcohol altogether as they will cause you dehydration. Avoid overeating as well to decrease the risk of nausea. You can also adjust your sleeping pattern while on board the plane. For example, if you know that in New York, the time is already for you to sleep then catch up on your sleep. But if you should be awake at a particular hour, stay awake as well.

Upon arrival to your place of destination, watch out for the actual adjustments. Go out to the streets and get exposed to the sunlight. If your travel is from west to east, exposure to the morning sunlight is more helpful. Exposure to the afternoon sunlight on the other hand is more helpful if you have traveled from east to west. It is also strongly suggested that you do not get an afternoon nap as it would disrupt your biological clock that is still in the process of adjusting. You should also eat a light meal. Also, as much as possible, try to familiarize yourself with your new surroundings. To prevent jet lag you can ask advice from a skilled osteopath.

Hi. I'm Karen. Ever since my friend introduced me to osteopathy, I've been a huge fan. My osteopath gets me back on track when needed. Ever since I've delved further into understanding the body and how to get the best from it.
