Common Symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis

January 14, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 150

People who suffer from Multiple Sclerosis have to deal with damage to their central nervous system. The illness targets the nerves myelin sheath, which functions as a conduit for electrical impulses throughout the body and a coat of protection for the nerve. Inflammation causes damage to the myelin sheath, and it will eventually lead to its destruction. Most people afflicted by Multiple Sclerosis experience a slow onset of symptoms, but the illness can steadily advance and become debilitating.

Multiple Sclerosis has some symptoms that are pretty common among the people who suffer from this disease. Most people report vision issues. These can range from blurred vision, which can be temporary, to problems with perception of colors. These symptoms don't have to be something that seriously affects the person, but there are times that something like blurred vision can turn into actual eye pain. People start experiencing these kinds of symptoms once the optic nerve is stripped of its myelin sheath and it loses its proper functions.

It is also pretty common for people to experience numbness or weakness of the limbs. This symptom affects each person in its own particular way, but once the nerve damage reaches this stage, the illness can easily become really debilitating. The person may start to experience difficulties with regular everyday tasks like reaching for objects, standing up or maybe even walking. Unfortunately, for some people the damage to the nerves is so severe that they will need to use a wheelchair. Some people will also have to deal with hearing problems, balance issues and maybe even issues with things like urination and constipation. The illness can eventually lead to more serious complications like breathing problems. Multiple Sclerosis does not only cause physical degeneration. This illness can also cause emotional distress. This symptom can be a serious one because it can influence the impact of the physical ones.

Multiple Sclerosis does have symptoms that tend to be present in many of the people that suffer from this illness, but at the end, the effect of the disease is different in every person. The symptoms will depend on which areas of the nervous system are suffering the most damage. Unfortunately, the damage to the nerves cannot be reversed and the degeneration cannot be stopped.

Multiple Sclerosis has some symptoms which can be pretty common among the individuals who suffer from this disease. A lot of people report vision issues. These can fluctuate from blurred vision, that can easily be temporary, to issues with perception of colors. These symptoms really don't have to be something that seriously affects the individual, but there may be occasions, in which blurred vision will actually turn into eye pain. People start experiencing these types of symptoms as soon as the optic nerve is stripped of its myelin sheath and it begins to malfunction.
