Statistics and Possible Remedies for Diabetes

April 24, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 180

The statistics, for diabetes, increase every day. Because of poor lifestyles, more people are becoming diabetics with the potential problems of heart disease, nerve disease (neuropathy), kidney problems, eye problems (retinopathy), and risk of amputation. Both adults and children are becoming diabetics.

Currently, most treatments include medications to lower blood sugar and control insulin levels. Insulin may be included in that list, as well. Even with these treatments, they are incapable of giving even type 2 diabetics a cure. They only control the symptoms and do not eliminate the disease.

How many people are we talking about? In the United States, more than 8% of the population that has diabetes. Of that number, it is estimated that 7 million are undiagnosed out of 25.8 million. It is thought that 79+ million are potential diabetics.

In 2010, about 2 million new diagnoses were made among those ages 20 and above. The different age groups are made up of the following:

  1. Of those 20-64 years of age, 11.3% or 25.6 million are diabetics.
  2. Of those 20 years of age and under, 0.26% or 215,000 are diabetics; it means that about 1 in every 400 children and adolescents have diabetes.
  3. Of those 65 years of age or older, 26.9% or 10.9 million are diabetics.

These are just some of the statistics concerning the condition called diabetes and the number of people dealing with it in the United States only. Diabetes was the underlying cause or a contributory factor in nearly 250,000 deaths, as well. Worldwide figures have to be much higher, and it's extremely worrying.

What hope do diabetics have if the medications cannot cure their condition?

The first step that diabetics should consider is changing their lifestyle because that, alone, has gotten them where they are today. Making those changes could make a tremendous difference in beating this disease. Some diabetics have totally reversed their diabetes, gotten off all their medication and insulin, in as little as four months. Though most will take a little longer to see the same results, most diabetics can eventually reverse their diabetes symptoms.

There are alternative treatments available for those who avoid medications when they can. Some of these include:

  1. Massage
  2. Acupuncture
  3. Biofeedback
  4. Food based vitamins and minerals
  5. Herbs

Many recommend food-based supplements, instead of non-food or synthetic based. Food-based are more likely to be organic, but non-food supplements are inorganic. Organic minerals are preferred because the body uses only about 15% of inorganic minerals and stores the rest. This could account for much of the arthritis caused by minerals in the joints that we see today.

Research is being done in regards to various herbs and their effects on diabetics. Some have been effective in reducing blood sugar and controlling insulin levels. However, while many cultures have used herbs as medicine for thousands of years, herbs can react adversely with prescription drugs in some instances. It is essential to consult with you pharmacist to learn about any herbs that could adversely affect our medications.

If you have diabetes, you need to do research and become familiar with the alternative treatments that are available for diabetics. You would benefit from being informed as to changes in your life that could have positive impacts on your diabetes. Many diabetics across the world are reversing their diabetes through natural means. Just think what a difference that could make in your life, to make changes and become a positive statistic instead.
