Your Quick Guide to Atlantis Submarine Tours in Hawaii

April 18, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 320

Atlantis Submarines International is the biggest public passenger submarine fleet in the world today. It is also known as Atlantis Adventures. It was founded by Dennis Hurd in 1985 and first operated off the Cayman Islands, British West Indies. In 1988, the first Atlantis Submarines operations began in Kona, Hawaii. Today, passengers can experience the Atlantis Submarine tours in Hawaii at three different locations, namely, Waikiki, Maui, and Kona.

The subs used for these tours are fully pressurized, air-conditioned, environment friendly, and battery operated. They have received certification from the American Bureau of Shipping to operate to depths of as much as 150 feet. Passenger safety is assured 100% because the Atlantis submarines always maintain positive buoyancy. This means that should they experience any power failure the sub will immediately surface without need for any human intervention. Passengers are brought to and from the submarines via ferry transfer.

Waikiki Submarine Tour Atlantis Submarines Waikiki is one of the two most popular water adventures in Hawaii (the other being Atlantis Navatek Cruises). A tour of Waikiki will give you the unique opportunity to observe the fascinating underwater marine life at depths of more than 100 feet. The Atlantis dive site in Waikiki is within view of Hawaii's famous Diamond Head and here you will get to see eels, green turtles, sharks, and stingrays, to name a few. Atlantis Adventures offers two types of submarine tours in Waikiki. The Premium Tour will have you climbing aboard the Atlantis XIV, which is currently the world's biggest passenger submarine. It can accommodate 64 passengers and provides passengers with more personal space and bigger viewports. Passengers will also enjoy more comfortable seating as compared to other Atlantis subs. Rates for this tour are $119 for adults and children more than 13 years, and $53 for children 12 years and below. Children must be at least 36 inches tall in order to join this tour. Online booking can get you a $10 discount on the adult rate and an $8 discount on the child rate. Rates are exclusive of taxes. The Standard Tour makes use of a 48-passenger Atlantis sub. Adult rate is $109 ($99 for online booking) while child rate is $45 ($35 for online booking). Again, these rates are exclusive of taxes.

Maui Submarine Tour The Atlantis Tour Maui allows you to discover the beautiful marine life off the Lahiana coastline. In addition, you will get to see the artificial reef created by Atlantis Adventures when they sank a replica of the Carthaginian in order to improve the marine environment. Booking this tour between December and May might give you a chance to do some whale watching during the journey from ship to shore. Rates for this tour are the same as those for the Standard Tour Waikiki.

Kona Submarine Tour The Atlantis Tour Kona will give you a chance to explore the fascinating underwater marine life of the waters off the Kailua Kona Pier. A 48-passenger submarine will be used and you will get to view a 25-acre coral reef that is 18,000 years old. The rates are similar to those of the Standard Tour Waikiki.

Clearly, the Atlantis tours in Hawaii are a great way to get that ultimate Hawaiian vacation. Don't miss the chance for this unique underwater adventure.
