Safeguard Your Data Against Loss

April 13, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 201

Your personal digital collection includes a horde of photos, songs, videos, documents, and programs among other things that you access and/or run every day on your computer. At the same time, you deal with the insecurity of losing your precious, lifetime digital possessions. The feeling comes in your mind every moment or so, not because you have not backed up your data but because of a number of things that you deal with everyday.

It can be anything from a virus, malware infection, hard drive failure, power failure, a temporary glitch, to catastrophic damage like flood or theft etc. that can sweep your entire valuable digital data or a part of it. It can be disastrous if you did not have a backup of your digital data. Even those old, shiny yet scratchy round diskettes (CDs) or a stylish pen drive which you store your data on will not save you in a rainy day. Why? I know this is your next question for sure. It is because you trust your external storage media and you know it well that it will not fail as it is stored in a safe place.

However, did you ever think that a flash drive or CD etc. is exposed to the same physical environment where your computer is? Yes, it is. Though flash drives or CDs are portable, but would you like to carry them all the time with you? Leave the CDs, let's talk about flash drives. Nowadays, stylish flash drives with big storage capacities (8GB, 16 GB etc.) are available in markets. You can wear a flash drive as a friendship band or carry as a key ring. Can you ever be sure that you will not drop it somewhere or will be able to save it from thieves? When you can drop or lose your car keys or files etc., why not your flash drive?

So, the thing is if your computer is not safe from the environmental damage, how can your external storage media be? With the risk of environmental damage and thousands of known and unknown online threats growing every day, you need a solution that is contemporary, risk-free, hassle-free, an affordable. Cloud storage is the only answer to all your data storage needs. Using cloud storage is as simple as rebooting a computer or sending an email. Check out some of the benefits that I have listed in this article.

Safety- Cloud storage, also called as online storage, is a service that stores your data on a virtual server connected to the internet. Unlike external storage media or a computer, it does not store your data in a physical environment. Since the service has no physical presence, it needs not bear environmental conditions. Thus, your data remains safe and away from the risk of being damaged, lost, or stolen. You can access your data whenever and wherever you want from a Smartphone like iPhone or a computer connected to the internet or WAN (Wide Area Network).

Security- Security is the key element of cloud storage. Considering the ever-growing threats of hackers, dataidentity thefts, virusmalware infections, some of the service providers like KloudBox use military-grade protection technique for your data. SSL encrypts your data when it travels via the internet and ensures that it remains safe and protected from hackers. For example, KloudBox offers a 4-layer protection to your data. It encrypts the data stored in your computer, in-transit data (it is when the data travels to the virtual server from your computer), data at the data centervirtual server, and the point of log-in.

If somehow you forget your password to log into your account, you cannot access it as it is fully encrypted. The only option you will have is to reset it. For that, you will need to contact your cloud storage service provider. Besides, it is mandatory for all the cloud service providers to meet the stringent security protocols and standards to keep customers' data safe. Though considering the loopholes, some providers may not follow the stringent rules. You should not take services of any such cloud storage provider.

Accessibility- Ease-of-access is a key element in a cloud storage service. The service lets you access your data from a Smartphone, iPad, or a computer connected to the internet. Install the cloud storage software on whichever device (abovementioned) you use and get going. Access or make changes to your data while on the go. The changes will simultaneously sync with your other devices. For example, you made changes to your data from your iPad, these will also reflect in your home computer once you log in to it.

External Media vs. Cloud Storage- With external media, you cannot sync your data. Synching means that the changes you make to your data every day or sometimes cannot reflect in your backup media unless you manually do. However, with cloud storage, whatever changes (like installing or uninstalling a programapplication, removing or adding songs etc.) you make to your data automatically sync to your data at the data center or your computer.

You need not do anything manually. With cloud storage, you save enormous amount of time and efforts. You can upload, download, access, share, and recover your data whenever and wherever you want. It is as easy as making a call. However, external storage media never gives you this option. Backing up and uploading data each and every time is a time-consuming and tedious process.

User-friendly- You need not install additional hardware to start using a cloud storage service. Your computer and/or your Smartphone are/is the only device that you need to use. What it takes is a simple software of a cloud storage service provider. The cloud storage support will guide you over the phone to install the software. You can immediately start uploading or sharing after installing the software. In case of any problem, you can contact your cloud storage support and fix your problems

Affordability- Cloud storage is comparatively affordable than the external storage media. Since you cannot make changes to your existing hard drives, flash drives, or CDs for adding or deleting data, you will have to buy new ones. Also, when they become full, you will have to spend money buying more CDs or hard drive etc. However, with cloud storage, you need to buy a time-specific subscription plan. You need not buy anything else. Also, you need not make arrangements for keeping your data safe. We recommend that you keep your data in cloud and steer clear of those data storage problems.
