How to Find a Dance Partner - A Guide

April 18, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 159

Finding a dancing partner to rehearse with is among the most beneficial things you can do for your dancing. With a partner you'll be able to get more practice outside your dancing lessons to review and perfect your movements. But where do you start? And just how do you make certain that you will find the ideal partner? These are some of the questions I will be addressing through out this article.

The starting point on your partner searches is all about you! You should be totally clear on what you want to get out of the partnership. After that, use your individual standards to screen potential people. To save you time I have come up with Three good questions you should ask and check with a potential candidate. These provides you with a good idea if you have a match or not. Without doubt there are many others, however these are a good start.

Here they are:

1. Do you have the same goals? Some individuals wish to become the next Blackpool champion and some are just looking to be able to lead and follow another person at a social gathering. It doesn't matter the desired goals are as much as selecting anyone who has the same ones as you do. So be sure you spend the time to really see what they are looking to get out of this relationship.

2. How often would you like to practice? Is it daily? Once per week or once a month? I suggest a minimum of one training session per week on a steady basis. Next, be sure to decide on just how long you want to practice every time. Is it Thirty minutes? 1 hour or even more? Be sure to discuss this in advance to avoid potential let-downs.

3. Can you work together? Are you compatible? While you are not trying to find a soulmate, make sure that the partner is someone you want to be around. You should determine whether your personalities fit. If you are an laid back, social dancer then it could be very important for you to find somebody who likes to keep it light and enjoyable. Alternatively, in case you are ambitious and serious, then you will want to get a partner who's got similar drive and focus.

Now that you know what you'll want to discuss with your potential partner, let's look at the next phase - exactly where can you look for one?

Here are 3 places to look for a partner:

1. Dancing studio Your dance studio is amongst the first place you need to broadcast your search for a partner. Inform them of how old you are, height and goals and ask them if they have any one in mind for you. Because they know already your personally they may be able to suggest someone well suited for you.

2. Other fellow ballroom dancers Notify all your "dancing buddies" that you're on a dance partner pursuit. They could know someone to refer you to. Generally, the more people you tell the better, it's a numbers game!

3. On the internet This is the newest and very effective place to search for a dance partner. Nowadays there are many sites that offer free and paid partner classified ads. The best thing about these websites is the information they provide about every dancer. They will usually have their picture, height, age, gender, location, a little bio and what they're searching for, all in one place. Lately, I've also seen many people posting their own YouTube video clip Web address so that you can view their dancing instantly!

I hope these tips will help you find the best partner for you!
