Definition of Customer Service

Service given to the clients from the time of their first contact and even after the purchase is known as Customer Service. It includes providing appropriate required information to the clients and helping them with all their queries. It has become one of the most important aspects of business nowadays and every business outlets have a Customer Service desk. Organizations all over the globe want to get instant feedback about their products from the customers and this is where servicing of the client plays a major role. Customer Service falls in two categories: Manual and Automated.

Business Organizations in order to make their business grow emphasize much on their client servicing. Many business organizations have a certain number of Client support representatives or Relationship managers whose sole purpose is to provide the customers with proper information, troubleshoot in case of any issues and convince them about their product and make the clients feel comfortable while purchasing a product. This type of Consumer Servicing comes under the manual category in which the service is provided by the staff within an organization.

With the advancement of technology, Automated Customer Service has been developed. In Automated program, the support is provided to the clients using automated means such as IVR, Touch Tone Phone, Emails, Online chat system etc. Automated Consumer Service is for the customers who want to solve their queries on phone or online itself.

A new technique for Consumer Service is developed which is a hybrid of both Manual and Automated techniques. In this technique first automated and then manual support is provided to the customer. From the recent studies it has been found out that the organizations providing better consumer Service tend to grow more by 50% compared to the organizations providing average or poor Service to the consumers.

Many big organizations like banking firms, computer manufacturers and many more have even outsourced their client servicing area to some other firms so that they can solely concentrate on providing better support to the customers. This process of outsourcing the client Service requirement to some other company is known as Business Process Outsourcing or BPO as it is popularly known as.

Customer Service is now itself a very big industry in today's market. Due to policy of outsourcing customer service, this industry is growing at a very large scale. Customer Service is nowadays becoming the face of modern business and those who serve well sell well.
