UK London Seaports

April 18, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 165

The UK is home to about 100 seaports and many cities have grown due to their ports.

The Port of Fishguard is located in Pembrokeshire in Wales and offers ferry services to the Republic of Ireland. The ferry terminal is operated by the Stena Line and is easily accessible by road from the M4. The terminal has a number of facilities including a cafeteria serving hot and cold beverages with some snacks, the Cuppacabana bar, facilities for the disabled, baby changing facilities and other facilities. There are a number of shops and additional facilities located close by. Shopping outlets, comfortable lounges, restaurants, play areas for children and movie theatres are available on board. Fishguard is home to a wide range of sandy beaches and offers stunning views of the bay.

Fleetwood is located a few miles away from Blackpool on the Lancashire coast. It is a major fishing port and is known for well established traffic to and from Northern Ireland. The port has a modern terminal with a cafe and a store. Shops and other amenities are available in the town centre located a little distance away from the terminal. It's a seaside town known for the beaches and the seafront gardens. Ferry services operated by the Stena Line stopped in 2010. The port and neighbourhood are set to improve with increased traffic with the development of the Fleetwood Harbour Village.

Folkestone port is rich in history and is located on the Kent coast on the South East of England. This port is home to the Eurotunnel terminal which is easily accessible by train. This terminal is popular for the Folkestone to Calais route to France and is familiar among the holiday makers who take their cars to France. Walking around your carriage leaving your vehicle for just 35 minutes is really an exhilarating experience. The terminal has a wide range of shops to eat and relax, shopping opportunities and other facilities.

Newcastle port is located on the North bank of River Tyne in the North East of England. The port was established about two thousand years ago and was helpful largely in the trade of grain, salt, lead and fish imported from Italy, Iberia and North Europe. In the recent years, the port and its surrounding have developed largely and a number of boutique hotels, bars, restaurants and designer outlets have been set up in the waterfront. The ferry terminal handles over 800,000 passengers every year and scheduled services operate to Amsterdam on all days. The terminals have automated baggage handling and covered walkways, six check-in counters and other amenities. Special facilities are available for the disabled.
