If you are looking for a unique wildlife experience during your Ecuador vacation, there is no better place than the Galapagos Islands. Set 650 miles west of Ecuador the Galapagos Islands are home to some of the most spectacular wildlife in the world. Enjoy all the natural wonders on a Galapagos cruise, where you will truly explore the many islands, islets, and coves all teeming with wildlife.

There are many different options for your Galapagos cruise but no matter what cruise you take you are sure to see a variety of birds, sea life, and other creatures who call the Galapagos home. You will find that most cruise itineraries overlap on certain destinations as these are the best spots for an up close and personal experience with the life that lives here. You will find a variety of different creatures depending on the islands you travel to, so when planning your Galapagos cruise choose the itinerary that best fits your wildlife wish list.

Santa Cruz Island, a stop on nearly all Galapagos cruise itineraries is known for being a wildlife hotspot. From giant tortoises, dolphins, and sea lions to a variety of bird life you are sure to see plenty of Galapagos creatures on Santa Cruz. If you are specifically looking to see tortoise the nearby tortoise breeding center at Chato is a great way to see the giant tortoise in the wild.

If birds are on your wildlife wish list, head to the northern chain of Galapagos Islands to Genovesa, also referred to as Bird Island. At Darwin Bay you will find a plethora of bird species from the red-footed boobies, lava gulls, and Darwin finches, there are countless numbers of birds on the island. On the island you can also climb Prince Philip's Steps which will allow for great views of the bird life and the surrounding area.

If you want to explore underwater life, Floreana Island where the Devil's Crown is located, provides some of the best snorkeling in all of the Galapagos. The area known as the Devil's Crown is an entire volcano submerged underwater, and is home to sea lions, balloon fish, tiger snake eels, and hammerhead sharks. Diving and snorkeling in this area is a great way to get an up close and personal experience with the many sea creatures found in the Galapagos.

A great way to end your Galapagos cruise is to explore Black Turtle Cove which is an isolated cove that is protected by the mangrove swamps that surround it, making it the perfect place to explore the Galapagos wildlife. Take a panga ride through these shallow waters home to sea turtles, sharks, rays, and a variety of birds. Black Turtle Cove is located only a short boat ride away from Baltra where many cruises will start and end.
