Creativity for Achieving Dreams

April 24, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 189

As human beings, we all have goals, dreams that we would like to see come true. Often though, we are lost in the minutia of how to achieve those dreams so instead we cast them off. Making your dreams a reality is nothing more than getting in touch with your creative side.

Just as in art, music and writing, creativity plays a major role in problem-solving, strategy-making and goal-setting. What may seem unattainable at first is really just a destination, the route to which you have not yet laid out. In order to achieve any goal, whether it is weight loss or a better job, requires that you think in ways out of the norm for you. It requires creativity.

Start by identifying your dream. Maybe you want to lose weight. Imagine what that might feel like. How would it change your life? Are you simply slimmer or do you see yourself as more muscular? Is your health part of this dream or just your appearance? Envision yourself as you would like to be. Look for ways to remind yourself of this vision you have for yourself. It might include pictures of yourself as you looked before or pictures from magazines of things you would like to able to do when you have lost weight.

Next, set a realistic goal. Losing weight is a wonderful dream but it is not a goal. A goal is something you can strive for and measure your performance against. Losing 15 pounds by a particular date is a goal. Make sure you are being realistic about the goal you set for yourself. Perhaps you want to fit into a new outfit for a wedding or special occasion. Use a picture of the outfit to help spur you on. See yourself in the outfit or attending the event.

Now, make a plan for achieving that goal. Set out detailed steps of things you will do each day. Let your creativity come out in full force. If you dislike regimented exercise, turn on music and dance. If you enjoy reading, listen to stories on CD or tape while you go for a walk. Walk in parks or settings that stir your imagination and use what you come up with to write a story. There are numerous ways to let your creativity inspire your dreams and make them a reality. You just need to give yourself permission to both dream and create.

Marita Steffe would like to invite you to explore your creativity. There are times in life where everything feels stuck and stale, especially later in life. Use this time to explore and try something new.
