A Complete Guide About APA Format and Text Citation

July 03, 2012 | Comments: 0 | Views: 135

The APA format is basically a standard way of formatting manuscripts. The APA format has been adopted by various writers. There are two main reasons why this format has been standardized.

First of all with this standard format, users and readers are easily able to understand scholarly texts with ease. Secondly, editors would not have to waste their time by developing alternative formats.

Though there are various other ways through which you can cite your writing, APA is the widely used one. APA basically stands for American Psychological Association. This term was invented back in 1929 by a renowned group.

The APA publication manual has set out rules on how you are supposed to write a report or paper. It deals with various features of formatting your report that includes what font to use, how to add headings and how to use punctuations. It seems difficult to understand at first but in actual it is not as difficult as you think.

You can purchase an APA manual from the online market or from other various sources. This manual can easily be found in any local bookstore. You just need to search on a search engine using the right keywords.

Make sure you shop online from the right place because there are high chances that you would end up purchasing the wrong APA publication manual from an unauthentic site.

There are many people who hire an editor who have sound knowledge in APA formatting. They are not just responsible for formatting the report, but also make sure the correct use of English Language.

These editors can turn your average looking report to a professional one. However if you learn APA format yourself then there would be no need for you to throw away your money on hiring editors.

It is a simple task and all it requires is a bit of practicing. APA formatting can be easily done by breaking down the format into a main section. The most important part in APA format is the text citation. You should have a strong grip on text citation and using the APA format at the same time.

Let's go through the basics of APA formatting. These are a few things that you need to consider when writing a paper or report, using this format.

First of all your text should be double spaced and typed. Secondly the margin between the lines of text should be 1". Usually font size is twelve, but some may even choose to change it according to their needs. Make sure to use the right font which is Times New Roman. Do not forget to add a page header at the top when starting a new page.

If the report has been written in this kind of text citation then it would have four different sections. The first section is the "Title Page". On this page you would include title, Author's name and institutional affiliation.

Then you move on to the next section which is the "abstract" section. This section would contain a brief summary of the complete report. The "main body" consists of main information, facts, details and statements. The last section is the "reference" part where you will find complete information on how to use references in APA format.
