However, if you are interested in being a bit more productive in your leisure time then getting a hobby is good idea. While some people like to work out, others like to brew their own beers. If you are looking for a soothing activity that has the potential to turn into a full time income, then you should try making your own brand of perfumes!

The art of creating your own fragrances is an aesthetic one, one that allows you observe the subtleties of the sense of smell and therefore opens up a whole new world to you. Creating your own fragrance is a very rewarding hobby as it enables you to try different combinations of elements to find your own distinctive fragrance.

So what are the elements required to have your own personal brand of perfume?

In order to make your own blend, you will need an alcoholic element, most preferably vodka. Then again it is possible to make your own fragrance without the use of ethanol but most experts would agree that alcohol brings more clarity to a fragrance. What actually makes your perfume new and intriguing is the order and amount in which you add your essential oils. Essential oils are the extracts from plants or flowers and can be substituted with fragrance oils or food flavors. Fragrance oils are synthetic and not as expensive as essential oils. Different combinations have different results and by trying different combinations you can come up with your own unique one!

A fragrance of a perfume can be divided into notes. A top note is the element that is the first to vaporize, followed by the middle note and the base note. There is a wide variety of options that you can use in the different notes, like spearmint and rosemary, that lets you toy with every aspect of your invention. The layers are added with the bottom note being first followed by the middle note and the top note.

After you have added all the ingredients, you must store them in a dark bottle, away from heat and light for at least 48 hours up to month. The length of time depends on how strong you want the fragrance to be. When it has reached a desirable level, mix it with water, shake the mixture, pour it into a fancy bottle and you have your own perfume!

In a day and age when being different is of the essence to some people, having your own fragrance is something that will truly set you apart from the crowd. You do not have to be a chemistry ace; all you need to have is an in depth knowledge of the different extracts and their fragrances and this knowledge comes best with practice. You can let your creative juices flow when it comes to making different combinations of ingredients and you can even name a brand of perfumes after yourself!
